Thunderbird Club

say what? I didn’t know you could have AAA come out and do that.

Had AAA for years never used them much.

Up and running for the next 5 years.

until the next thing breaks.

TV up and running too. I didn’t want to spend Sony money on a brain melting TV.

the Hisense seems to be fine so far, the Samsung was 7-10 years old. I had a sound bar on it and I didn’t feel like hooking it back up and the new tv sounds fine.

Our TV audio goes through the stereo. It’s capable of running more speakers, but we already had a set of Technics we really like, so we just run through those. Surround sound’s fun, but not something either of us wants to spend a bunch of money on. The receiver was free; someone at work was upgrading and giving it away (how I got the two before this one as well). Upside: This receiver has the digital inputs we needed for the new-ish TV and Blu-Ray player. Downside: no phono inputs or tape deck outputs. Everything here is a mix of old and new.

That sounds cool. Can we visit the Fender factory too ?
Uh, …yep. I will gladly host you and anyone who want to do a SoCal visit. The 7ender Corona factory tour, a show or two, depending on who is playing, Dodger Stadium, the L.A. Zoo, the Museum of Tolerance, the beaches, etc… I’ll even drop you at Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, Magic Mountain, Universal Studios and the like and pick you up. We have plenty of room at the mountain place and it’s an easy drive (depending on traffic) to most places.

Cool! But where is the Space Needle?

We're in Pioneer Square, the south end of Seattle's downtown the Space needle is at the north end near Queen Anne Hill

Looking south here, the steeple is part of historic King Street Station where my morning/afternoon commuter train stops, you can see a bit of Lumen Field as well

Random story related to Thunderbirds only in that it happened between the time I saw Leon and the Ox both play Birds in concert one night and when I started playing bass (on guess which basses!):

There was a time in college in Atlanta when strangers would regularly walk up to me and start talking about things I, or in some cases “we”, had done recently - things I had definitely not done recently, or at least not with them or at those times. After close to a year of this, my doppelgänger moved in next door (in random off-campus housing, not dorms). The first time we saw each other out front on the sidewalk, it was like that scene where two Spidermans are pointing at each other. We both yelled, “YOU!!!” It was a surreal experience - the same clothing, same hat, both barefoot, same hairstyle (on our heads and faces), same glasses, both nicknamed Mad Dog, same favorite video games, same hobbies, similar voices and speech patterns, both living the same bizarre encounters with strangers convinced they knew us. And, of course, friends who would wonder later why we didn’t remember the conversations described above. (Some of them had to be feeling gaslit.)

We only lived by each other a short time. I occasionally hear of other doppelgängers here in Austin (or maybe the same one moved here!) but that was the only one I’ve met. I don’t recall his legal name (if I ever knew it!) I wish I did, because I’d love to try to find him.

Logical, maybe Aramaic in the mix somewhere?
Yes, no doubt at some point after Heb I would suspect. Could likely have been a word in Aramaic prior to Heb usage and with a different meaning/application, but I don't know that off the top of my head. Often a huge amount of borrowing ("loan words" as they are called), and along with some inventing.

Heck. I agree that Autozone pretty much has their act together. But I have AAA come to me. Price is close to Costco and the like, and all it takes is a phone call. They arrive in thirty minutes, test and install a new one if needed (they pretty much have one of everything on the truck). I don’t think I’ve messed with doing it myself this century.

And a very happy Easter to you my friend.
Great suggestion! I have AAA too.

Are you sure yer not him?

Thanks. This wonderful bass got used this Easter. Currently has SIT Nickel Foundations on it. Crazy good tone. I prefer old StringJoy strings that were round core, but the SITs are pretty close. Definitely right up there close to the '64 Thunderbird.

Is that vintage or one of the recent RI's?
So, I was downstairs Dremeling to fit the surrounds to my DeColas when the redhead who lives at my house who was upstairs watching a how to kill your husband (Lifetime) show. She came downstairs to check on my progress and I told her I was almost done, telling her I was going to paint them flat or gloss black. She said leave them shiny (chrome). Thoughts?

I like big tuners, I can not lie. I found a set of the big Wilkinson clover leafs tuners (from my first VP that got a set of vintage style reverse clover leafs)that came with the early shipments of Vintage Pros so I installed them on one of my later VPs with the short generic tuners. I'm very happy with the results and more mass at the headstock is always a good thing imho. Nice looking, easy upgrade. Did you have to change tuner ferrules? Thx!

Nice backside. Can wait to see how she looks when you flip her over and post a pic on full frontal Friday.

No need to wait - :bassist:

Hipshot converted my late '80s vintage small-plate clover E tuner w/their Drop-D mechanism - sadly they no long off this service.

Under the hood : Fender/Kubicki 9v pre - looks like a Fenderbird, sounds like a Kubicki Factor (which is killer)

Beaster Sunday at Winters' Tavern 2023 - The Sean Conneries - Kirstin expecting her 2nd daughter Iya - I managed 9 bands there today starting at noon - a bit more cloudy and chilly compared to a perfect day one year ago.

1st up outside today (when there was a little sun) at noon was a solo performance by a 20yr old Angelo - cool/dark vocals over electronica-flavored tracks... think Martin Rev/Alan Vega (Suicide)... pretty gutsy young man. I dug it. His mom was his "roadie". :)
upload_2024-3-31_20-24-16.jpeg

Next up (inside at 1:00) was a "dad band" - that is, dad on bass and his two young sons on guitar & drums. (The Eddies) A great way to start Easter Sunday! This should make every musician smile.

The rest of the bands were all good in different ways - but the 1st two were my favorites.
