I have to look up more when playing - screenshot from the vid. It's amusing reading the side-bar comments as it was going on. Lots of silliness - one person asked, "why are the two musicians trying to look like the Blues Brothers?" Last I checked the Blues Brothers wore neck-ties and hats. Must have been the sunglasses which spies also wear... Paul had trouble tying his bow-tie (Phil & I use clip-ons) so he left it undone. Gave him a suave, Bond after-hours look!

Saturday 4/13 RSR in San Jose, opening, short set. Just a fun little gig for us to hopefully get some notice in the South Bay.

Saturday 4/27 two gigs, one day, both BL and RSR, as described a few posts back.

Sunday 5/26, Bad Lemon at Winters (no details yet)

Nothing in June yet.

Saturday 7/27, Bad Lemon at Benders, SF.

Sunday July 28th, 3-5pm, Bad Lemon again at “Treasure Fest”

…and way out in October, RSR at Old Princeton Landing, 10/19 with State Line Empire.

…the details on some of these are unclear ATM, but either way, nice to have gigs on the calendar. Really hoping RSR gets some good summer gigs.

New strings day. I set up the Flamingo and the 2001 with Bass Burners. They are 45-100s. The Bass Burners I had before were a whole lot thicker. It will be interesting to see how these compare and to see how long it takes for them to break in. As I recall, it took about two weeks of playing to make them sound good, then they lasted a long time. The only issue is the orange silks. Those look awful on the Flamingo. Not so bad on the 2001 and they would look great on Veronica's sublime orange Lull. The idea is to set the two bass guitars up more or less the same and see what differences in sound they have. The Flamingo has Thunderbuckers. Neck is a 63N and the bridge is a 66S, so a lot of difference in how hot they are. The 2001 is stock Gibson TB+ pickups. The test is partially to see if Thunderbuckers are all that and a bag of chips, and to see if the pixie dust 2001 is really that great or if it's all in my head. It will be about another month before I can even start to see what the differences are. That's really fast for me, but it could get pushed back if I don't like the way the strings are breaking in.

I'm not sure how long Bass Burners will stay on the Flamingo. If they sound great, they might. If not, I don't know if they will wear out before shallowness kicks in and I need to replace them with strings with purple silks.

I appreciate all of the fun and interesting stuff we discuss here too including T-Birds!

Yep, very unique place on earth. "Internet friends" sounds weird, if not creepy, but it really takes on a different meaning here. Where else could you possibly be comfortable having anyone from the club visit and gladly have them stay at your house but here?

Well, maybe not Willy. I like my frets and want no surprises after he leaves....and his fondness for certain types of women is slightly concerning.

Those are great strings. Thunderbirds can sound great with flats, but never tried those on a Thunderbird. Is it possible I need another Thunderbird?......

Yesterday they had all wireless mics so only our amps/instruments. Our Phil provided his drums for the day- a nice "Ringo Star" Ludwig set.

As much as watching vids of us playing makes me cringe watching me - I force myself to to see what I need to do to look better on stage. It's part of performing and makes for an entertaining experience for those in attendance. It doesn't have to be anything extravagant - just visually engaging. Same with on-stage 'banter' - Cherie & I are working on it.
