Chivas Regal is smooth, and my first choice for a blended over ice or straight (Ballantines was my gateway Scotch).
But for a single malt I bought a triple distilled "The Balvenie" - a small dash of water to open it - smooth, little to no burn.

I find Irish Whiskey smoother. Of the widely distributed brands I like Tullamore DEW as my go to. "The Dubliner" is nice, and of course Jamiesons.

I give the nod to Jamison's. But It's usually $24.99 except around St. Patrick's when it usually goes for $19.99. The Dew is fine.

As described B4, the SVT/fridge went on stage for 50 weeks at a time for 2 1/2 years of a 6 nights a week gig. No way I'd've used it for one-niters.

not necessarily but I use either (got both types) depending on the joint type..

You kinda have to work your way up to Islay whisky. Islay typically needs a bit of water to be at its best. Not much, but it's not a whisky you drink neat.

I argue that the three drops of water mean you're still having neat whisky. Good whisky usually needs a few drops of water to release the flavours.



Either way, good whisky is too good to be mixed like a cheap whiskey

Most people drink whisky to get drunk.

Famous Grouse has the best taste to price ratio. It's the most palatable cheap whisky (blend) you can drink by the bottle.

FYI: I'm British and visit Scotland a lot, no one chooses Famous Grouse in bars.

That's popular in bars? In the UK William Grant & Sons brands are found everywhere and decent. In China, Johnny Walker is popular, but I don't rate it. They also have a lot of other brands such as Cutty Sark, which is made in Scotland but we never see it anywhere.

Monkey Shoulder is decent Vatted Malt: a blend of single malts with no grain. That's a solid go to.
