Dude is setting himself up for a retirement gig. I wish he would have bought the Thunderbucker stuff. We all should have gone in together and bought it. Put Irv in charge. Woulda, coulda, shoulda had any of us been thinking.

I did think about it seriously at the time and got in touch with Steve. At that point my day job was causing me significant stress and I didn't have the energy to take on something like that.

That one seemed like a better than fair asking price all things considered, glad to see someone snatch it up that will appreciate its potential. If you haven’t already, you might want to reach out to Scott to see if he has any updated bridges left, I think he was running low on them.

So, are the plans to keep it as is, or restore it, or just play the heck out of it?

Still where I listen to most of my music, however I know it’s not as common for everyone as it once was. I use my work truck as my listening room when going over the mixes for new recordings. However I am coming to the conclusion I also must listen with earbuds and straight off the iPhone to also make sure the mix is something I can live with, which, as far as a good bass mix coming from itty bitty speakers, virtually never happens… key there is “a mix I can live with”. Music sounds really good in my work vehicle, and always has. I have always made sure to have a decent system in the place I spend so much time.

I think most people have maybe long forgotten how good music can sound! Quick YouTube clips on your tiny phone with tiny speakers, just don’t do it, and I guarantee, virtually never, do most people get from beginning to end of a song/video, without switching to the next one. Could Pink Floyd find success in this century if they were just starting out?

Not to mention since we’re all older, most of my friends and acquaintances don’t listen to music like they used to. When we were young, music was just simply a bigger part of everyone’s life. Waiting for the next recording(s) from your favorite band(s), going home to kick back and enjoy listening to music, going out every weekend to hang out and see live music from your friends’ bands, to national acts passing through, etc. Now it seems that mostly it’s a handful of your friends and only the other musicians/bands that you interact with that are still going out. I get it, everyone has grown up, and, to young people, the music we play is old people music, etc. it’s just what happens as time passes…

Music, playing it, and listening to it, and discovering new stuff(even when the discovery is new to me but not “new”), is still my favorite hobby. I realize how important it is when I’m hanging at home in the morning, quietly and I get up and head out to my garage to tinker, and just put one of my weird Pandora stations on, and my mood lifts, immediately.

Some guy at sound man school said that's how it's s'posed to be done. And the lemmings all agreed.
I was in a Chicago/BS&T cover band in the early 70s. I know-and played-the bass lines from most of their early hits. My daughter and I went to a bunch of Chicago concerts(14?)the past few years. The kick was so effing loud that the only time I heard those bass lines was in my head. I could see Jason's fingers moving where they were s'posed to but his bass(Lakland J)was buried.

Had the same experience at times. I'm not even sure if the bass stopped playing anyone would notice. Including the professional sound person. I know doing sound is not a piece of Baklava, but it wasn't and isn't always that way. Some seem to be able to pull it off and others not.

I've even snooped around on sound guy sites and nothing is ever mentioned, that I have run across. We need to join a sound guy forum and post crazy stuff, like all band members are there for a reason.....

But if i do, i'm prepared to give people a face full of in your face bass playing.
And feel good about it.

I last saw them at the Fox Theater in Bakersfield fairly soon before Sheff left. So ‘15 or thereabouts? The sound was well done. I even complimented the guy at the board as we walked past him after the show. I don’t know if he was from a sound company or an employee of the band.

thx George! seems like it intonates ok….one of the few ones I’ve seen with what seems like an intact headstock….joining a blues band called King Bee…. will put it through its paces at practice tonight….
