Oh, I'm not putting myself down. I know what I can do, and just as importantly, what I can't. While I know it's not the kind of [stuff] most folks here would 'dig', I kinda wish it would be practical to upload some of the things from the 80s group. Unfortunately, the video quality is mediocre at best. The sound is "OK"(?), but many of the tunes are pretty long(playing for dancing)and some are even medleys that kept 'em on the floor, which is what we were paid to do. The next time my BIL is here, I'll see if we can pull one or two songs offa an old video. He's better with that kind of [stuff] than I am.
Even the better quality videos from the current band tend to run long, plus they're 60s/70s (pre?)classic rock songs that a lotta people [not our audience] are tired of hearing, such as "Mustang Sally"(which I sing): tired ol' song-that fills the dance floor. And people sing along on the bridge. Or "Johnny B. Goode". Again, fills the floor. Also unfortunately, only one current-sorta-video has the 67 NR in it. I didn't take it to the outdoor gigs that we did-heat and humidity are not a 50+ y/o bass's friends.

I was ok back in the day and could hang petty well. Mostly covers with some originals. But I haven't played in a real band since 1981. If I could corral my brother who is a good guitarist and get him to focus for more than five minutes at a time, we could put something together that wouldn't be half bad.

Great playing, good dynamics (really important to my bands) - live recording is good, was it from the board?

Question; you seem to favor the Lull which is understandable, but how do you determine which T-bird gets played where? You said the '64 will showcase your Halloween show... but otherwise how do you choose? At one point when I attended weekly jam-sessions, I just put all my basses (names) in a hat and randomly picked the one out of it for that week.

IMO, a lot of our 'gang' is pretty modest about their abilities. And, with a few exceptions, most of us haven't been heard by the rest. Then add in that we play many different genres for different kinds of audiences. I'm not a big fan of people boasting about what they can do.
I've played just about every kind of music other than metal-much of which I like to listen to-and Klezmer. I think I do pretty well although arthritis and age have slowed me down some: listening to some tapes from the 80s, there are parts I can't play any more. Somewhat frustrating, but the current band doesn't do those songs so I'm home free. Oh, well. Like the sig says: "Playing 'til I Can't".

I'm the same way, and as a bass player don't expect anyone to ever notice my playing. Over the years all the musicians in jam-sessions and bands I've played with never bring up how we play. More the opposite.., instead pointing out parts that need to be played differently, especially with original material which I'm highly respectful of. Bass players are important for the gestalt, but beholding to the success of the final performance.

Yes it can, and nasty to remove - but not always. Lacquer inevitably 'yellows' over time and even poly will 'amber' depending on conditions.

That's elegantly elaborate. This fretted to fretless issue has been addressed in so many ways over the years through a myriad of design approaches. But... it always comes down to a very much simpler solution... a fretted bass and a fretless bass. Problem solved!
