IMO, a lot of our 'gang' is pretty modest about their abilities. And, with a few exceptions, most of us haven't been heard by the rest. Then add in that we play many different genres for different kinds of audiences. I'm not a big fan of people boasting about what they can do.
I've played just about every kind of music other than metal-much of which I like to listen to-and Klezmer. I think I do pretty well although arthritis and age have slowed me down some: listening to some tapes from the 80s, there are parts I can't play any more. Somewhat frustrating, but the current band doesn't do those songs so I'm home free. Oh, well. Like the sig says: "Playing 'til I Can't".

what are you talking about? you're a great player……wish I could play in a big band ensemble like you do…AND, hope I can play like you do when in my 70s..:thumbsup:

When I saw them a few years ago at ACL, he basically cussed the crowd out for calling for it. I think he said they'd never play it again, but I can't recall for sure. I get that he tired of the song, but there's a reason it launched the band big time. It resonated with people.

The Pretenders did a cool unplugged version.

Some of them wanted it obvious or just ran with it. Jefferson Airplane was my favorite, draping things over the neck/string, even weaving things between strings.

Skyhooks guitarist Red Symons once took his hand away from the guitar just as the close up for the guitar solo came up.
I believe the TV people were not at all happy.

I was embarrassed to play, but went to the GTG's we've had anyway. I played some, brain lapses and all. I am better in my shed than in front of all the good players here. But nobody laughed, at least to my face, so there's that. I really want to be playing more and with others. Everyone here is very encouraging.

I would describe it as between the modern Reverse profile and the '13 NR profile. It does not have a volute. I find it very playable. But I'm not picky about neck profiles. I worry more about getting the notes and rhythm right.

Oh, I'm not putting myself down. I know what I can do, and just as importantly, what I can't. While I know it's not the kind of [stuff] most folks here would 'dig', I kinda wish it would be practical to upload some of the things from the 80s group. Unfortunately, the video quality is mediocre at best. The sound is "OK"(?), but many of the tunes are pretty long(playing for dancing)and some are even medleys that kept 'em on the floor, which is what we were paid to do. The next time my BIL is here, I'll see if we can pull one or two songs offa an old video. He's better with that kind of [stuff] than I am.
Even the better quality videos from the current band tend to run long, plus they're 60s/70s (pre?)classic rock songs that a lotta people [not our audience] are tired of hearing, such as "Mustang Sally"(which I sing): tired ol' song-that fills the dance floor. And people sing along on the bridge. Or "Johnny B. Goode". Again, fills the floor. Also unfortunately, only one current-sorta-video has the 67 NR in it. I didn't take it to the outdoor gigs that we did-heat and humidity are not a 50+ y/o bass's friends.
