Yes the other band was headlining. I played my Orville through the other guy's GenzBenz 750/matching 610. Nice rig, but way too much horsepower for the room!

I am looking for a solid shaft pot for my Peavey build. Apparently, the combination of features I am looking for only come in split shaft. That would mean I would have a mix of solid and split shaft pots. Has anyone tried to use set screw knobs on a split shaft?

Yes. It's never been a problem.

I have used set screw with split shaft and it worked fine. In my case they are solid brass knobs and I had to open up the hole in the knob a tiny bit, used a .128 drill bit, I think, then it dropped on with no play, no need for the sleeve. Cinched down the screw and it worked great.

If the set screw clinches the split it can make the knob rotate off center so a sleeve would work too.

Last night I played a gig using the Squier Rascal. Worked great and it's been ages since I played a short scale on a gig. It's a big and a heavy bass but you still have to play it more lightly so it needs some "mindset" so to speak.

Split shaft will normally work ok with set screw knobs. But if you get a bit of off center spin and want to correct it you can usually install a sleeve on the pot shaft. You might also find the set screw works better hitting the split or the spines, try it both ways to see what you like best. On the cheap you can also slip a few small pieces of cardboard or plastic in the split to make it act more like a solid shaft.

Never been big on corvettes, but I liked the ‘68-‘72,(73?) while they still had chrome front AND rear bumpers.

Though they aren’t as fast or would nearly handle as well, I’ll take a big ole ‘69 Charger or ‘70 Challenger over a ‘vette any day, but that just my personal taste. ‘70-‘73 Formula (not Trans Am) Firebirds and ‘66-‘69 GTO even.

Mopar rocks. I’d have one of the new Challengers but for the wife.

I don't want to take anything away from a Leo Quan 'original' - but... at its introduction it was primarily geared to be installed by an experienced individual modder, or a tech. (filing string slots & correct installation) They upgraded it a few times over the years with dedicated slots etc, but then Fender 'cloned' it (with sub-standard MIC casting IMO) at a similar time when Hipshot nailed it with adjustable brass inserts and tight/clean casting. A good product at a good price-point that does the job. Score for Hipshot.

The thing you may not have noticed looking at my two examples, is that the KA bridge allows for Fender & Gibson spacing. Because the brass saddles can shift side-to-side, one can dial in both string spacings. The E & G 'pinches in' a bit for Gibson spacing, but regardless - it works.

I had a difficult time dialing in the BadAss on the Thunderbird Studio I got last year. Someone thought it was a good idea to install it on that bass. I think the Gibson version is better. Anyway, we’ve come to terms and it’s ok. It does the job now that it is setup properly. I would not have done that had it been my bass originally.

Gig report! The Ozzy Sabbath tribute I am in just got a new guitar player and he makes all the difference! Frankly we were struggling before. Jim comes in and nails it to the wall with two rehersal. The venue was so impressed they are going to make room in the summer schedule for us, they like many venues are booked well over a year in advance. We went on at 8:30 to a iffy forecast by 9:00 the place was packed. This is the first number of the set. It felt great to be back on stage.

My main player since I got it has been the red Greco Willy sold me. It stole that position from the burst Greco I bought from Mark, which I didn’t like quite as much. I decided to use the MarkBass (sic) this week rather than just keeping it for backup. I know there was a sonic or playability reason it was #2, but dang if I know what it is now. Maybe it just needed a rest. I still prefer the Willy bass because RED! but blind taste test? Both equally almost perfect.

You keep raving on that Thunderbird. Willy gave me a shot at it and I passed. Lesson learned. I’m glad you got it and are enjoying it Miles. It chose you over me. And it’s all good. I will have a Greco someday.

Well, I’m finally done with the Lake Placid Blue Vintage Pro Thunderbird.
It started in January.
I’d forgotten what a pain it is to wet sand nitro.
It’s my only one set up with flat wounds.I dig it.
The finish buffed out mirror smooth..Sorta why I kept my clothes on while shooting a few pictures. There are a couple of micro scratches that I may re-buff in the near future.I was out of time for the weekend and wanted to get it built to plug in.
The truss rod cover is a prototype until I find the right cover.
Dust flakes do show up well in some of the pictures.
I’ve been kinda slack posting of late due to grandkids,garden and the boat. Not to mention work.
This may be a little bit picture heavy.
