Thunderbird Club

Happy Summer Solstice y'all!
upload_2024-6-20_22-20-33.jpeg

Taken within the exact minute of the solstice.

We gots gigs Friday and Saturday night. Hafta use the Epi Embassy Friday night. I've got my PA/mixer to my right between me and the drummer and the neck of the TBird would hang over the first table to my left plus the stage is only ~8" high. Bad form to conk the Elks Club members. Should be able to take the 'Bird Saturday night-the guitarist(only one on these 2 gigs)is bringing his PA so I'll have a tad more room.

Honor Blackman’s Bond “film name” matched her character perfectly!
Oh, yeah. Thinking back, she was just about my favorite(surviving-in the movie)Bond Girl. My favorite that didn't survive was Diana Rigg.
Edit: Looked up Honor Blackman. We share the same birth date-20 years apart.

What necks is he used to, Vox? I would never call the Thunderbird neck bulky...

Right??

Some of the Epi necks are bulky compared to the original Gibsons - and apparently that Schecter.

That Schecter Ultra Bass neck is similar to a Gibson Bird neck. The Sixx variation of the Schecter has a very beefy neck that makes the Epi VP necks feel svelte.

Oh man, I made that mistake once - I set an over-priced scotch on my amp and started our set. By mid song it shimmied off the amp and went crashing to the stage-floor. Never again... :rollno:

The broken scotch-glass can be seen on the floor in the center of my cab...

What have I got myself here. I'm in China and I got it second hand. Obviously with the amount of small guitar factories here is easy for it to be a copy but it probably isn't. It's got a metal nut which seems like something that would be skimped out on if it were a copy.

I don't love the sound by itself but it sits in a reburied recorded mix quite well.

What is it and are there any basic upgrades I should do? Pickups and pre?

Epiphone Thunderbird Pro IV. The only active Thunderbird. Brass nut and bridge. That one was made in 2013. 7 ply neck through.

It's actually a good candidate for changing out the pickups and the pre amp, my Jackson Bird has EMGs and while it's not everybody's thing they really cut in mix.
