Well, this guy is about 3/8 of an inch further south than a II. But it's already an improvement in sound to me. Two moderns might end up being a little bit too much. May have to call in some reissues or trade some gear for some lollars or Duncan's.

Anybody need jazz pickups or a John East Pre? Lol.

I could not get-on with a bass with limited on-board controls. V/T, V/V/T, V/T-V/T or VT/VT. These all work for me. I have also used active pre-amps that incorporate blend, boost, pu selector, series/parallel/kill-switch etc. All good in my book. I dial/set my amp at rehearsal and never alter it. I'm the default in the room as far as volume, which gets contended at times. (our guitarist...) Live, it depends on the room but once dialed - I don't touch the controls during the set(s). Song-to-song during a set... I adjust on-board only. TETO - but a volume and tone knob are something I very much use and rely on.

If I stick with the single pickup I'll probably keep the modern. I have a reissue on backorder with Sweetwater in case though.

If I decide to go through with the double I'm willing to bet the reissues will be way more versatile than two moderns.

The Sean Conneries are playing tomorrow at Winters'. We are jokingly going on as "The George Lazenby Trio" (in-house Bond joke; GL was only in one Bond movie) as Kirstin will not be on stage with us due to a recent injury. We've operated as a trio in the past so we just chose material we could do w/o K. (45min set) Our very own @Stealth57 Dave will be 'in the house' so I'll assume there will be documentation. (hint-hint) I promised our drummer Phil that I will rock my '64 II. I used it on January 1st for my B-day gig at Winters' along with my '68 Coral Deluxe Bass (2 sets) and he voted it the one he liked the best sound-wise. (a close decision - IMO the CDB sounds just as awesome!)

those make great gigmobiles, a british band that played next door to us had a dark blue one with brit plates….always liked the styling of those over US made vans, big, with lotsa space…do you remember what motor went in those?…

On the amp? I set all controls at 12:00 and adjust Master/Gain as needed. I can also boost V on my d.i.+ if needed, which I also set at 12:00.

Anchor! YES! (well at least the most SF beer...) I've heard that some smart person stepped up to the plate and bought Anchor! Big fan here - my "house beer"... and I liked the simplified yellow anchor label.

Firstly, these are not Fords. GM’s old Vauxhall brand was based in Bedfordshire - so when they created a truck brand they used Bedford for the name. Same logo, a Griffin with banner. The V on the banner is for Vauxhall.

Vauxhall 2lt slant 4 (which was the basis of the Lotus engine in the Jensen Healey and modern Elite/Eclat)
and a diesel choice as well.

Aussie Bedford
Either because of lack of grunt, or perhaps for local content reasons, the GM-H version received the Holden red 6. Yes, the V8 can be made to work as well - common mod for recreational & show vanners rather than those used for delivery duties.

Here is one used by the Post Office - Australia Post. If you zoom in you can see the “Powered by Holden” badge under the Bedford name badge.
For decades after they ceased selling in 1981 you would still see these vans trundling through the suburbs. Pink paint and playing green sleeves… as Mr Whippy - soft serve ice cream - vans.

My Gibby 2015 bird is one of the worse offenders I have when it comes to the tone knob controlling the volume of the bass (as long as the volume knob isn’t on max).


TB is the only social media site I’m on. I have a LinkedIn page but I mostly ignore it and it’s way out of date.


My last house had about a dozen large Bradford pear trees. Every wind storm we would get would tear about half the trees down. Lop em off about three feet above the ground and the grow back in a couple of years. Aristocrat Pear trees are much stronger and pretty much have no problems in the wind.

I do not have that issue with my ‘15.

You can also get them directly from Gibson, although I just checked and they apparently don’t have them right now either.
