Thunderbird Club

That is an '89, so shortly after Henry J took over Gibson and had them re-issued, I bought it new that year, originally it had all black hardware and some really funky pickups underneath the plastic covers. Around 2004 or so I was on another forum called "The DudePit" and the Gibson guys there were all about chrome hardware, not black, I was easily influenced and over time I replaced everything black with chrome parts, the pickups went thru a couple changes. It has Lulls on it now, they were ridiculous money, even back in 2008 when I bought them - No price break from Mike, even tho I was/am an endorsing artist for them!
I've owned more than 60 basses in 50 years of playing, this one the longest, all the wear is the real deal, I put it there, so it's probably my favorite bass of my current collection. When I get too old to play and have to suck food out of a tube this bass will be the only one I keep. :)

Darn, I thought you were over it and would sell it to me! It took about 20 seconds for me to fall in love with that bass.

I'm pretty sure that purple silk business is nothing more than Internet myth; unlike my empirically verified belief about the tug bar.

Virtually every 60s Thunderbird, probably without exception, sounds better than every other iteration of a Thunderbird. Common denominator? Mahogany tub bar on all the old ones. Don't be a science denier.;):smug:
Possible, but. My 67 mahogany 'tug bar' is now a thumbrest on my '09 Epi EB-0.

Can any of you tell what era/model T-Bird pickguard would replace the one on my G2?- was thinking about someday getting a plain mirror-finish one without the artwork (you know, in case I get a church gig, lol)-

Just send it or a tracing to @Engle. Irv does great custom work. He can put a Tbird decal on it, and you know it will fit.

I did a replacement pickguard for a G2 shortly after they came out. Just checked the tracing and it's pretty much identical to a Gibson 2001 Bird.

Did you make any change?
No, no betting. Well rarely and very small amounts then

Aw, HELL no. I can identify. The best trucking company I worked for was bought out by another outfit. They'd said they were impressed with the number of people who'd been there for years. Care to guess who got :poop: on first? Then they turned to us 'owner/operators'-put me and ~35 other guys-who felt they had a 'home'-outta business.:banghead:
yeah, new board moved on a few long serving Execs a few years ago. Since then a new CEO (who seems excellent TBF) at the end of last year… since then a heap of us gone, all high service years people. A few got tapped, I took it into my own hands and left before the tap. 34 years service and I dont miss the place now. Sad really.

Finally going overseas in Sept after I was pressured into cancelling my approved leave in May 23. That just ate away at me until I gave my notice.

White Bird Day..........

My white on white Chinese Pbass has aged in the opposite way. The body is still bright white but the pickguard is yellowing. ????

Non-starter for me. Frankly, they are abandoning the faithful to get in on some of the insane money some people are willing to pay. I ain’t one of them. I’m happy with what I have and if I never buy another new Gibson, so be it. It ain’t that important to me.

Yeah, if I want a Gibson GC bass, I'll pony up to get exactly what I want. Not likely to happen.

Geoff,
It was never a bright white to begin with, Gibson called it "Classic White" so kind of a bit on the yellow side ( We all know there's more shades of white than any other color, right?) , the finish sweat stained and yellowed as I played the bass, especially live and it has it's share of honest wear, plus all the usual dings, dents etc. The color is rather uneven overall, when this started happening I was a bit upset about it as the bass was still pretty new, anymore, I just dig it.
