Thunderbird Club

Yes, great point.

This is the way I’d go.

I used the Ashdown and the NR at practice last night. The NR had SIT Power Steels as opposed to Power Wounds (NPS) that were used Sunday. Both sounded good, but for me the NPS set sounded better and more full to my ear. Not as bright, but more punch across the tonal spectrum. I just notice more between the lows and highs with the Power Wounds, at least through my Ampeg Heritage 410. No doubt different rigs produce different results.

That said, it's nice to use the NR and not not be thinking "This thing just doesn't sound great" while playing. It may be moving off the chopping block. A few more uses and possible string matching and the decision will be in. Then I will see if I can get the '55 to sound better with the Ashdown.

Like I said, a single (good) Thunderbird pickup is magic, I know you're using EY Guitars for this, so go with SIT Power Steels for strings, they'll help fill in for what the pickups are missing - that nice complex lo mid and mid.
Also bonus point if you can cut the PG and not use the trim ring, like this:

It's just a matter of making a router template. I used a trim ring to make a template, but it's pretty easy with a 3D printer.
I just made two for my Ripper:

No, no betting. Well rarely and very small amounts then

yeah, new board moved on a few long serving Execs a few years ago. Since then a new CEO (who seems excellent TBF) at the end of last year… since then a heap of us gone, all high service years people. A few got tapped, I took it into my own hands and left before the tap. 34 years service and I dont miss the place now. Sad really.

Finally going overseas in Sept after I was pressured into cancelling my approved leave in May 23. That just ate away at me until I gave my notice.

My white on white Chinese Pbass has aged in the opposite way. The body is still bright white but the pickguard is yellowing. ????

Must be a poly finish, and a different type of plastic.

Yeah, it’s pretty easy
I’m just going to make a guard from scratch. This one has a truss rod notch, and i I don’t need that. And by making a custom guard the trim rims will be optional… I can see which way I like it best

ill probably just make a generic p bass guard template with just the outline while I’m doing it. That way I can easily route it later for whatever pickups I put in future projects

That’s what I did for my Ripper. I’m probably going to make another guard for Tbird pickups, but I want to try out the MIJ sidewinders first.

Yeah, just having a template for the Pickguard outline makes the pickup swap and experiments much easier. I need to make a new guard for four projects currently… This one, a “snakehead” P, a 52 style p, and a “Broncostangmaster” :D
