Thunderbird Club

I finally got around to purchase the Geddy "Big Beautiful Book of Bass" - what a nice "coffee table" book! It appears that no expense was spared - heavy-stock pages, great colour photo's and lots of fun reads. For $50 - it's a bargain. I was happy to see the nice big pic of an amber'd white Dano Dane (sweet!), the early '60s relative of my Dano-made '68 Coral Deluxe Bass.

I wonder if it just covers 'most' of his collection as there are certain basses that are missing - like this one... does anyone here own one? It's pretty cool - the Greco "Suzi Quattro" bass.

Yes, it's a must have book.

It did really help the red one, the blue on the other hand is so completely outlandish in person - thus, I'm still on the fence about painting it.

It really is a stunning color.

I personally love the blue as is, FWIW--which is nothing.

Gibson needs to dress up the T-Bird with some bling like these Super Split Block mother-of-pearl neck inlays! That would look sharp IMO.

Plus I would like this Purple Burst...on a T-Bird too!

Those ideas will never be used.
1. Gibson won't check here for more and better ideas.
2. Those are great ideas, which is a disqualification for Gibson it seems.

Kleb was certainly a departure from the typical Bond beauties…
That polishing job really brought out the beauty of the checking in the finish. Looks great!
Thanks George. I bought a set of 3" polishing pads from amazon and used a medium(ish) foam pad with Mothers #3 Carnuba, then buffed it with the wool pad. I'm pretty happy with how it came out!
I should probably do the same with my EBO.

Oh, the shark, babe, has such teeth, dear
And it shows them pearly white
Just a jackknife has old MacHeath, babe
And he keeps it, ah, out of sight
You know when that shark bites with his teeth, babe
Scarlet billows start to spread
Fancy gloves, oh, wears old MacHeath, babe
So there's never, never a trace of red
Now on the sidewalk, huh, huh, whoo sunny morning, un huh
Lies a body just oozin' life, eek
And someone's sneakin' 'round the corner
Could that someone be Mack the Knife?
There's a tugboat, huh, huh, down by the river don'tcha know
Where a cement bag's just a-drooppin' on down
Oh, that cement is just, it's there for the weight, dear
Five'll get ya ten, old Macky's back in town
Now did ya hear 'bout Louie Miller? He disappeared, babe
After drawin' out all his hard-earned cash
And now MacHeath spends just like a sailor
Could it be our boy's done somethin' rash?
Now Jenny Diver, ho, ho, yeah, Sukey Tawdry
Ooh, Miss Lotte Lenya and old Lucy Brown
Oh, the line forms on the right, babe
Now that Macky's back in town
I said Jenny Diver, whoa, Sukey Tawdry
Look out to Miss Lotte Lenya and old Lucy Brown
Yes, that line forms on the right, babe
Now that Macky's back in town
Look out, old Macky's back

I do that song occasionally in our group. I remember all the lyrics to it, but I can't remember all the words to "Old Time R&R"-which we do on every gig.:wacky:

What would really be great is if you could get the innards of the Super40 into a rack mount.

I haven't seen what the guts of the Super40 look like, but I'd imagine it'd be pretty easy to convert it to rack, given that was the original form factor of the Ashly. If I get around to it some day, the Ashly schematics are available, I could draw them up into a PCB and make a newer rack version, incorporating the Diode mod on a switch like on your old one.

I’d happily pay you for your services if it could work out.

The 1977 Thunderbird is the greatest bass ever made

The 3 point bridge works just fine.

Who cares about neck dive?

That is all.

I like my two '76's a lot, they're really different from the other iterations that Gibson produced, likely because the pickups are such a different design and coupled with the original Series wiring. They are there own thing in my estimation, a thing I happen to like a lot under the right circumstances. Mine are both nice players, the wood work is good, the 3 point functions very well too and doubt that I would ever change it out for something else. They're both a little heavier than my newer or older Birds but not by much. I tend to wear my basses a little above my waistline with my right arm on the upper bout and that seems to be my preferred position and thus don't have "neck dive" issues.
They seem to be going up in price over the past few years (being over 40 years old helps) and maybe are a bit more appreciated for the unique bass that they are, as opposed to being compared to the '60s Birds.

This one is wired like the contemporary versions, I'm seriously thinking about rewiring it back to original this winter.
