Thunderbird Club

I had a feeling y'all were purists on the subject. I'll just sit on the sidelines and pretend.

Mate, we're not purists on anything.

... altthough we periodically indulge in demicturation of fanbois who like to show off in front of the other fanbois with 'all Gibsons are sh1te/neckdivey/snap if you look at them/sound like mud'. [edit] NONE of which is true.

My Epiphone doesn't neck dive. Rehearsed with it on monday and it sat at a nice angle the whole time. My Peavey actually dives more (due to the body being too light weight... this is why I tend not to care for light basses).

I'm not surprised re. your Epiphone not diving. The headstocks on those are smaller than vintage T-Birds, as well as having much smaller tuners. I've owned a lot of 70s Thunderbirds and they all have dove reprehensibly! And that's even with moving the strap lock to the heel of the bass. You basically can't take your hand off the neck.

What is the difference in weight when the vintage are compared to current?. I heard the vintage were tanks but Ive never held one.

Ohhhh, some vintage are super light and balance quite well.
Just another misnomer.

UFff! Another edit;
Misnomer in said Birds having all this neck dive.
Some do, but I have yet to lay hands on one that does.
But I've only had my hands on just over a hand full. :oops:

Wish I could join but all I have is this. Can I be like an awkward cousin to y'all?View attachment 1125185

Cool looking bass, never seen one like that before. What model is that one? Looks like a cross between a T-Bird and a Mockingbird. Me like! You definietly meet membership requirements IMO (hell, if they'll let ME in...).

My strap button is on the neck heel, stock. Probably why.

None of my 'Birds dive at all. The only one that did was the bolt-on Epi, and it doesn't now that the strap button is installed through the neck plate. The neck plate is either aluminum or pot metal and you can practically drill through it with a toothpick. I might be exaggerating a little, but it doesn't take more than a garden variety drill and dull drill bit to get through it.

Has anybody told him about the initiation requirements yet?
