It’s a hell of a bass. How much is attributable to the location vs. the SD’s in it is an open question. But it is certainly the best sounding VP I’ve heard. There was so much going on that day that I didn’t think to compare it to V’s VP with the Gibson reissues in it.

The SD Custom Shop pickups are really nice, love them in the Orville! Would def buy them again too.

I've come to a decision. Since I don't plan on ever selling the 67 NR, I'm gonna send it to Gibson to be 'overhauled/refinished', somewhat similar to that "Burnt Orange" one they did awhile back. Just as soon as the "The Prize Patrol" shows up at my door(they tell me they're coming). Either that or I'll just play the carp outta it until I 'buy the farm'.

I have to say that Ashdown is making some basses and moving them into the top 1/4 of best sounding basses. I'm really shocked. The '21 NR might be the least improved compared to the others it helped, but that almost means nothing given how great it is sounding. I used it at rehearsal Wed and when everyone was playing and singing it was fantastic. By itself it wasn't all that hot, but in the mix it really sat where it needed and was wonderful to hear, especially given how unimpressed I was with how it sounds vis the Ampeg. Not '64 fantastic, but certainly much less divide now. Might try some LaBella flats on it next for kicks. And you will understand this, the Sonic Stomp does work a bit of it's magic with the Ashdown as well. Sounds great without it, even better with it.

I totally understand you wanting your #1 bass to be all it can be for you. At one point after seeing a natural-finish bicentennial, I considered stripping the finish off my '64 II. In retrospect, I'm glad I didn't but that was when it was my only bass. Later acquiring more than one or two basses allowed me to mod other basses than the '64. I had already added a B pu in the late '80s so it was out of "collectors" interest. I'm glad I did it in many ways - it improved it as a player and removed it as a temptation to sell for 'big bucks'. (considering I bought it w/OHSC for $750...)

As I don't follow them/her, that's news to me. I know they have an appeal but frankly they don't do much for me - just feels manufactured for a target audience. Generic, stylistic groovy jam-band. I just know they made a big deal about what she played as part of their marketing strategy.

Ours was Signal 30, I think. We saw that and a movie about lung cancer in back to back periods. Both were very graphic. Our football team’s starting quarterback fainted during both movies.

To be clear, I was being facetious. Because mufunzalo, I can't even afford to leave it as is, much less have it "fixed"

So coincidentally/oddly enough.., I now own two British Ashdown amps referencing JD's ill-fated car ; a 550 Spyder (named after his Porsche) twin-tube pre/ss amp, and the all-tube "Little Bastard" 30watt amp. Not sure what their marketing angle was in this case, but there you go!

A friend and I built the roster for the rock n roll death baseball team. You had to die young in an unnatural way to be on it. There were plenty of options.

As much as you most likely rebel against being fully a part of this current on-line mode of communication - this instance provides a clarion signal to incorporate a simple (helpful to understand ones subtle incorporation of being "facetious") emoji for clearer interpretation... just sayin'
