That's a good question. Did the neck profiles change between the different BaCH releases?
I have heard there are some made with wider nuts, like a I.625. But don’t really know. But my two are the same. And I’m not clear on the differences, if any, between or even during the release runs. Heck. It could just be variations between the person building that instrument? Or how they felt that day?

Is it the way the photo was taken, or do I see an arm contour on the blue one?
Yes that’s a forearm contour on the blue one, which also has a belly cut and a drastically thinner heel than the white one. The white one does have a belly cut but that’s all, and it’s much heavier than the blue one. No idea which one is what generation but both have had the bridge pickup added.

Too kind Jeff…..I’ll get it together later today or over the weekend….for now, two live clips, different bands…same rig/strings….one with pick one fingers but both have that triplety thing going…….to me, they both sound remarkably close even though the venues couldn’t be different…..I guess one subconsciously (?) strives to “homogenize” their tone…

curious …..at least three BaCHs I know of where bridge pickups were added……does the preference for IIs and/or IVs just whimsically sway back and forth?..

In my case I have a tendency to rest my thumb on the top corner of the pickup. I play at the neck pup position about 80% of the time, but when I want to play at the bridge position my thumb is constantly looking for a place to rest. Hence, the desire for a bridge pickup.

I was hesitant to add a pickup to the Black BaCH I sold to Marshall because I thought these things were fairly rare and I didn’t want to mod something that wasn’t absolutely necessary. Since I sold it to Marshall two years ago I’ve seen at least 5 BaCH basses go up for sale (two of which I bought). I’ve lucked upon some dual pickup purchases so all is now good in my little universe.

What would be way cool is for me to string my BaCHs up the same as yours so you could do a four way shoot out…

Thunderbucker

Gibson Reissue

I am seeing a number of build differences across the three examples I’ve played, I guess that comes with the small run handmade bass territory though.

When you say dramatically thinner heel, do you mean the neck heel itself or step up to the body at that point?
I'm probably going to taper the body on mine a bit at that point to make it more similar to my EBO. Obviously it won't be as thin.

I’m out right now. But when I get home I’ll snap a pic for you.

The hole in the headstock is unfortunate. You could get it repaired and painted black, then get a TRC with a BACH logo. :D
It was damn near pristine when I sold it. Not sure what happened to it after it left my house.

Yep. It’s a nice player. I’ll be dialing things in over the next few days. It will get a Wilkins refinish, including the headstock. I’ll be asking you for a white TR and logo.
I thought it had a nice, comfortable neck. Looking forward to seeing it in the new color!

I recall when you sold it. I looked up the thread. It was pristine. The front, other than the headstock is pretty good. The back has normal wear, scuffs and scratches, but no gouges. It wasn’t abused. It wasn’t babied. I do like the pickup for something different. It doesn’t have a lot of growl. It has a lot of bass to compliment a round, clear tone. I’ll change to steels when I get around to it and see what that does.

When he installed Scott’s PG, he used screws with large heads. I do not care for them. Given the prices sellers ask these days, I’m surprised at the price they were asking. There is nothing wrong with it. The TR works; I immediately tightened it a half turn. I’ll probably go another eighth. Then I’ll work on string height. I think there is still a turn left to lower the studs for lower action.

A refinish won’t be cheap. But it’ll definitely be worth doing. The Thunderbird has “good bones.”

Is it just me, but is TB slow and wonky Friday evening? It was doing this some last night as well. Other sites load lightening quick, but TB doesn't seem sure it knows what to do next. A page with pics may take 20 seconds to load. Servers on dialup now?
No, more like monkeys with twine and tin cans
