Random: Sometimes I wonder what 29 year old me would think of the collection of basses and gear 58 year old me has. 29 year old me probably wouldn’t believe it.

No worries! You could ser up your Bird for something totally different - such as a flatwound thump machine.
Same here. Young me would be shocked at the mountain of gear that "old me" has.

In the '90s I had two basses, and a few pedals...but not complaining/comparing - I have an embarrassment of great playing/sounding basses now and love every time I play them.

I would add, 29 yr old me would be impressed that 59+ yr old me lived that long.
From the mid 90’s through 2011, I think all I had was my ‘70 Jazz, an SVT-II (non pro), an 810e and a small practice amp. Maybe another Jazz and definitely my‘72 P during that time. I still have the 810e, the 70 J and the ‘72 P (the ‘72 came back to me after selling it to a friend in 99). From 99-2011, I was not playing at all (addiction, recovery and simply getting my personal and work life back on track).
From 2011 to now I have spent an embarrassing amount of money on stuff.
It looks like after having the 810e for 30 years, I’ll finally be selling it on Tuesday, along with my ‘73 SVT.
I’m pretty happy with the collection I have and what I predict will be a long slow sell off of stuff over the next decade as I find I don’t use some stuff. For example, I have a Ric 4003, and I like it a lot, like having one in the arsenal, but I haven’t actually played it in well over a year. Items like this start to be considered as the next thing to sell.
Old me still has my 19 year old gear. Just added to the pile
It's a good idea to go through everything and fix things like those screw holes before the refinish.

For me 29 yr old me would be in 1982. I was living in Chicago, playing in the Eddie Taylor Blues Band Eddie Taylor - Wikipedia I owned only one bass, my '64 II which I still have. I hadn't installed the Seymour Duncan B-pu yet. My (only) amp was an Acoustic 150b head/2x15 cab. I actually had 2 2x15 cabs but never used both at the same time - both came with the sale. I bought the rig used ($250!) a few years prior. I owned a Kong tuner that everyone in the band used. That's it.

August 1978 - bass is 14yrs old - I'm 25yrs old - 1st pic after delivered. Still have the leather strap and it is still attached to the now 60yr old bird.
Red "thrift-store" Polo 100% cotton shirt ... "Polo" was the "Membor$ Only" of the '60s/'70s - we bought them used then for peanuts.

18 year old me and now soon to be 66 year old me.
Didn’t have much as a kid, but what I did have I loved and played.
Never had more than 4 basses at a time, and even that was too much.
Happy to be alive and still play bass.

29 would ask, “When and why did I switch to bass?”, think “Of course it’s Thunderbirds!”, and be thrilled I could afford all this gear.
18 year old me, more interested in cars and girls than anything else at the time. About the only music I played back then was done by turning the volume knob on my radio. 66 year old me, still interested in cars and girls but I eventually added bass addiction to the mix.
