I assumed he was exaggerating for effect. But there are many Epi IVs available without a separated fingerboard in the $300 USD range. Most times you can get a case.

Oh no! Wow - a bear break-in! That's crazy. I wonder if there's some high-pitched sound thing that can scare them away when you're not there. As George said - good thing you weren't there when he invaded your home!

It was 85 when I left at 5pm to ride, 76 when I got home 3 hours later. And low humidity!
It was 72 when I got to church this morning for loadin. First time in several months I didn’t break a sweat (because of heat and humidity) doing a couple of 50 foot gear hauling trips.

Last bears I saw were as a kid vacationing in places like Yellowstone, the Badlands, Mt Rushmore & Devils Tower. My dad rented a pop-up tent-trailer and we'd camp at campsites. Bears were everywhere and you had to keep food guarded. Luckily never tangled with them but garbage cans were always overturned during the night.
I know. I routinely see them in VG or better condition here for 300-350. As well as some for 500-600 that for some odd reason don’t sell.
We had 3 break ins in Tahoe City. Last one the bear turned on the stove burner and charred the cabinets and refrigerator. If the meter reader hadn’t noticed, we’d have lost the house. That was it for my mom. Sold the house in the middle of the downturn.
It’s called Rex the Wonder Dog. It is a radar-ish based barking dog that can sense movement through a wall. But those pesky bears can smell food in sealed cans inside a refrigerator from outside a house. Dogs aren’t that scary to them. Paint ball guns on the other hand…
If the barking dog sounds like a malamute, it might work. In several years in the Alaska boonies, only one beer (of many, many) ignored Blitz’s barks.

Definitely orange here in Seattle today when the sun managed to break through at all, the smoke and grass pollen are making life a bit difficult.

That’s the thing. He would not have gotten in had we been here. Over the last few years, they have become smart enough to know when someone isn’t present. We do all the stuff we’re told to do. We don’t have any attractants. A house with no one home means there is an unguarded fridge/freezer. Even if there isn’t much in it, like ours. The problem is that there are idiots who feed them. Some are residents. Some are weekend Air B&Bers. There was a CDFW policy change in ‘22 that essentially maintains a hands off approach now. Prior to that, problem bears and the idiots were dealt with. That is no longer the case. Big Bear is facing the same problem. And it isn’t just mountain communities. Suburban communities like Sierra Madre and Pasadena are also having issues.
No, just a brand of speaker in the 70s and 80s (maybe more, I don't know). They may not have been the only maker than had the "dot" on the dust cap (silver dome part). As I recall if was some kind of mesh and not just paint for looks. I'm not sure what the reasoning was behind it and how it factored into the design.
