Marshall, you need to be creative to solve the problem. Just get the home address of everyone on city council and the mayor. Then invite all your neighbors to join you in a pork chop challenge. See who can hide the most pork chops in the most creative places at each city council members and the mayors residence. Once the bears become a problem at their houses I’m sure laws will be changed to deal with the unsafe situation. That’s the thing. He would not have gotten in had we been here. Over the last few years, they have become smart enough to know when someone isn’t present. We do all the stuff we’re told to do. We don’t have any attractants. A house with no one home means there is an unguarded fridge/freezer. Even if there isn’t much in it, like ours. The problem is that there are idiots who feed them. Some are residents. Some are weekend Air B&Bers. There was a CDFW policy change in ‘22 that essentially maintains a hands off approach now. Prior to that, problem bears and the idiots were dealt with. That is no longer the case. Big Bear is facing the same problem. And it isn’t just mountain communities. Suburban communities like Sierra Madre and Pasadena are also having issues.
FWIW - when I was in Jr High school I lived in the Colorado mountains about 25 miles outside of Boulder at about an 8000 foot elevation. Our house bordered on the Rosevelt National Forrest which was considered a relocation refuge for “problem” bears from Yellowstone Park. So we would occasionally get some darn big bears wandering into our yard that were not at all afraid of people or pets. The policy back then (early 1970’s) was to just clean up any outdoor mess the bears may have made with thrash cans, but if the bear was attempting to enter the house (these big ones could easily break down a normal house front door) home owners were authorized to shoot to kill and then immediately call law enforcement or the game warden. Never got to that at our house fortunately, but one of our neighbors had to take the shot at their house. I feel your pain.

bathroom scale. Other three (LPB2/5, EB-0, Ibanez) weigh more-or less. I'm too lazy to check right now.
