As a contrast, my 18 year old daughter played her first show this past weekend. She is a part of a guitar/bass duo with a drum machine. Played in a house/ basement show at her college and easily had an audience 4x-5x of what we had and made $55 dollars which is double what we mad

I remember playing a show in the Philly suburbs and getting paid a six pack. Thank god we were a trio and one of us didn't drink.

Yeah that form of payment is all too common! Once played at the Dirt Club in northern New Jersey and got paid via 1 case of Budweiser bottles and 144 White Castle Hamburgers.

It was an interesting ride back down the NJ Parkway at 3AM, in a 1973 Oldsmobile sedan....

Hah! It's not that I don't rock-out on certain songs - I just balance my right hand input with my amp/volume output.

I sold the limited edition BABE blackburst G&L yesterday. Just came back from the post office. Anybody have and spare heart medicine? I used the box that was a little bigger so I could get some packing all the way around it instead of one that would have allowed for nothing. The slightly extra size added extra to shipping with a whopping total of $253 bucks to ship to Arizona. Normally with no extra size it would have been $226. Wow! I should have gone by UPS just to see, but they are always more expensive. But maybe not this time. And for some reason every time I sell a bass or head it always goes way our West and is never nearby.

Ouch! That seems crazy high. I alway put the dimensions, weight and insured value into all three of the major shippers (USPS, UPS and FedEx) calculators to find the best price. I have never found USPS to be even close to the other two. I shipped my Bach NR to George from NY to CA for less less than $175 via UPS. I suppose it depends on where you're shipping from though. I have huge UPS and FedEx hubs very close to me.

All the songs are EADG tuning except for Watchtower. It is D# G# C# F#. I could transpose the tabs but that is a pain when there are open strings. A pitch pedal would allow me to leave the tuning alone and not mess with the sheet music. Also, only need one bass.

I understand now. If it were me, and I didn’t want to take a bass specifically tuned differently, I’d transpose the chart. And learn it accordingly. There is software available that can do that for you. That Hendrix version should not be too hard to shift everything down a half step. It looks like there are a few open Es, but not much else to think about.

I have never found USPS to be even close to the other two. I shipped my Bach NR to George from NY to CA for less less than $175 via UPS. I suppose it depends on where you're shipping from though. I have huge UPS and FedEx hubs very close to me.

And I’ll add, that having purchased nearly a hundred guitars and basses, the vast majority of them shipped, most used, some from even overseas and some directly from the manufacturer, I have yet to receive a better packed bass than the BaCH I purchased from you. That says a lot considering some of my purchases have been for very high value one of a kind collector basses.

I’m working on a lighter touch when playing live as well, but it both of my bands it’s tricky. If I push the volume on the amp to be able to be present against loud drummer(s), then I feel I’m overpowering, but if I go conservative, then I end up playing harder on the right hand to “try” to compensate. Both rigs I use live are very low end heavy, especially the AD200/OBC115, and even though the TB500/2xOBC112 is strong in the lows, sometimes I have to push the levels to keep up. Not usually getting to play places with full PA support also means I’m counting on the amp to deliver all the sound (as well as the rest of the instruments) to the whole venue, so conservative volume levels sometimes equates to not being heard.

Definitely working on the lighter touch when practicing and recording.

Exactly - a light, articulate touch is imperative for recording. I read where Sting likes to play (live) just behind the amps output, pushing with his right hand to achieve the sound/tone/feel he wants. Not overly aggressive - just enough to gain the attack he wants. Makes a lot of sense. Laying back/light touch having the amp output a bit higher so subtle phrasing can be heard also can work, and is another way to create your own sound.

Adding variation and diversity to your playing by incorporating as many techniques as possible (not all at once!) makes one a more well-rounded player.

Thank you George. It's easy to make it bombproof when the instrument has a case. Or even a boxed guitar or bass in a bag in a second oversized box. But something as long as a that BaCH with no case and that infamous headstock called for extreme measures. I still sweated it until you let me know it arrived safely.
