Thunderbird Club

Got flu, updated Covid, and RSV shots several weeks ago. But I have had an on and off runny nose and cough for awhile now. My wife is convinced I have pneumonia. I doubt it, but I am trying to see a doc this week.
I keep procrastinating about the shots and had a cold. It didn't stop me from diving in cold water last Sunday and yesterday or going full speed on land. It must not be serious, but the reminders are good. All that stuff is going around. Plus, if you avoid getting it, you don't pass it along.

I don't think Cream was really meant to last, I do think it was three guys that came together at the right time in their lives to make some truly great music.
They all made each other better, especially Ginger Baker. The guy that suffered the breakup the most was Clapton, he lost his best influences.
Totally agree. Baker & Bruce were seekers/originals - Clapton not so much. His contemporary Jeff Beck was always stretching/exploring and became a much broader/deeper talent/guitarist over the years.

Buddy Guy, a composer, and Ghengis Khan. The perfect trio, but once again, greedy leeches destroy a beautiful thing.

Disraeli Gears was the first Cream album I bought when new - loved it. Listened to Fresh Cream later. Good, but DG was the bomb then. It's funny thinking back to LP buying days. Shifting through the stacks, I picked up Fresh Cream and the pic on the front looked interesting, but when I picked up Disraeli Gears - I bought it straight away. Same w/Are You Experienced, Piper at the Gates of Dawn, The Vanilla Fudges' 1st and LZ's 1st. The cover art was really important if you never heard the band/music before buying.

Really hate to hear that. I hope Beth and you get to feeling better soon. Stay hydrated. Nothing seems to help much unless you can get Tamaflu in the first couple of days. Unless you live with a Doc, that's unlikely.

I've had the flu twice (as an adult anyway). Thee first day it might have felt like a cold, but after that no cold has ever made me feel that bad. Everything hurt, even my butt and my hair the first time (not referring to the same location), fever, and was out for a week with lingering effects after that. I get a kick out of people who say they had the flu for a 2-3 days and kept going to work. I tell them that was a cold, not a the flu, or you have some kind of super immune system.
I have always gotten the flu shot after the first time. Still felt horrible the second time but just a fuzz less bad. I thought the shot was on target that year and didn't think I would feel that bad. I asked the Doc about it later and he said, It kept you out of the hospital didn't it, so it did it's job and that's about all you can hope for with the shots.

Weekly US Map: Influenza Summary Update
It's not high in the state, but is "very high" in Louisville.

You know, come to think of it, maybe we had the flu and the shots helped. No fever, but I was more sick than just a cold. Who knows.
Yes - all words to take heed of. At the emergency room the Dr mentioned Tamaflu and prefaced it with; if Beth was as sick as she was coming in after 5 days in one or two days - they would have prescribed it. Otherwise it has nasty side-effects and should only be used in an emergency situation. I agree that a flu shot doesn't necessarily prevent getting the flu - it aids in it not getting worse. There's so much misunderstanding/misinformation about virus's and shots that this country (especially) could see another Covid-like virus that will make Covid seem tame.

Happy New Year...

Sorry to hear this. Be well soon!
Thanks Miles - I'm better by the day. I'm more concerned about Beth's recovery because the coughing prevents her from sleeping sufficiently. I think she'll be better by the end of the week.

Great recording! Sounds fabulous on my iPad. Nice playing Chuck.

Groovy smooooothe.
Thx Guys! more than 20 years ago, everyone was playing 5ers so I had to join in on the craze which btw, didn't last long for me......that said, 400 bucks well spent, nice bass, Thomas messing round with it now....where is time going?...:bored:

Eclectic reading too!

figured that's what prompted your "Like"....totally unintentional btw, T has the bass now so II couldn't snap a new pic....;)...Thanks!

I did have a 5 string Epi Non Reverse for awhile, couldn't get on with it, string spacing was obscenely narrow to the point of being almost
unplayable. I did borrow Dave Dickerson's (RWB 7enderbird guy) Gibson Studio 5 for a week as well, he was selling and I thought about it, but
it just wasn't a good fit for my left hand.

I have a 5 string Spector I barely play, sounds great but it's gotta weigh over 10 lbs....holding on to it as an investment as it's signed by Spector himself...that said..... Hipshot drop D all day long...

Anymore I just don't find myself wanting a 5 string, that may in part be driven by the band, but even in my leisure time playing the bass I don't find myself drawn to music that requires a fiver - I'm turning into an old coot! :woot:

I've always preferred the visuals of 5 in-line tuners vs 4+1 on a Fender style bass. And those are nice sculpted clover tuners - I have them on my '93 American Standard J. Is it J spacing? Schecter has always made quality guitars/basses. I've built a couple nice Gildaxe 5'rs (sold one, the other one is for sale) but never got into playing them much. Best advice I've read is "don't play it as a 5'r, just play it as you would a 4 string and drop to the B when it's convenient for the lines you are playing." Too many 5-string players abuse the B playing it where it's unnecessary. (unless playing Dub etc) My Ex-Factorbird fretless is strung BEAD and that works for me on certain songs.

I kinda had to learn the hard way as a 5 string was a requirement from the BL.....back on the rack it went when that contract expired..... don't really need more than this..........

Strings through body equals sustain, right?
Well, I've never really noticed the difference except when it works the other way 'round.
I tried a normal F-style bridge to my Squier Rascal as it dropped in without modding anything and I have to say that all the things that bothered me with especially the E-string (it sounded dead compared to the other strings) were gone. The intonation is now adjustable without having an extra long screw driver and I can also use a normal short scale set. The scale is short but with strings going thru the body a medium scale set was needed.

Why didn't I think of this earlier! Especially as I had done a similar mod to my red Telebird which original 50's style bridge killed the E-string as the angle was too steep. Strings-through-body again.

Not that I have tried very hard, but whenever I play a 5 string at some point I end up playing on the B string when I should be on the E.
So I just use a Drop tuner, or tune down.

It's always interesting working on instruments. Especially when real life experience works out differently than expected
