Thunderbird Club

I have been movin' slow the last few days - my partner got How To Tell if You Have Influenza A. earlier in the week (thought it was a cold) and gave it to me for Christmas. I got the flu-shot a couple months ago or it would have been worse for me. It feels like flu to me, but as I haven't had the flu for years now (a fringe benefit of Covid where before the lock-down everyone was walking around infecting each other) I don't know how else to compare it. Bond Girl had to cancel our Music City SF show last night. Beth had it worse, so much so we had to visit the Emergency Room last night around midnight because she was having a hard time breathing. She has asthma issues but luckily it wasn't Covid and was stable after doing tests & x-rays. We were told it's hitting the whole country hard right now - so if you haven't got your flu-shot I highly recommend it. Influenza A is the one from the 1918 pandemic that killed millions of people around the world. Be safe - not sorry gang.
Really hate to hear that. I hope Beth and you get to feeling better soon. Stay hydrated. Nothing seems to help much unless you can get Tamaflu in the first couple of days. Unless you live with a Doc, that's unlikely.

I've had the flu twice (as an adult anyway). Thee first day it might have felt like a cold, but after that no cold has ever made me feel that bad. Everything hurt, even my butt and my hair the first time (not referring to the same location), fever, and was out for a week with lingering effects after that. I get a kick out of people who say they had the flu for a 2-3 days and kept going to work. I tell them that was a cold, not a the flu, or you have some kind of super immune system.
I have always gotten the flu shot after the first time. Still felt horrible the second time but just a fuzz less bad. I thought the shot was on target that year and didn't think I would feel that bad. I asked the Doc about it later and he said, It kept you out of the hospital didn't it, so it did it's job and that's about all you can hope for with the shots.

Weekly US Map: Influenza Summary Update
It's not high in the state, but is "very high" in Louisville.

You know, come to think of it, maybe we had the flu and the shots helped. No fever, but I was more sick than just a cold. Who knows.

First time with a VP and the Ashdown. I used the white with GHS Precision Flats. Sounded good and just fine, but seemed to be missing something. During our run through I flipped the Ampeg on and used that for the last song. Yep. It's an Ampeg bass. Some good magic coming out. Used that for the service. I confess that possibly the Ashdown could have been EQed to where it sounded as good, maybe better, but I have little time to fool with EQ on Sundays. I'm still learning EQing for each bass with the ABM. A nice amount of EQ options with the Ashdown.

The basses that were bassy or had something of a hollow sound fantastic with the Ahsdown and basses that are more midy (Pbasses, G&Ls for example), and have less bass sound better with the Ampeg. But that kind of makes sense. A few basses seem to be happy either way.

Sorry to hear this. Be well soon!

If you ever wondered what The Soft Boys sounded like with a Thunderbird (including Dylan, VU, and Beatles covers), here you go. They joined Yo La Tengo at last night's Hanukkah show. Fun fact: Kimberly Rew from The Soft Boys started Katrina and the Waves and wrote Walking on Sunshine.

Excellent! Unabashed Katrina and the Waves fan. I don’t care what anyone thinks, I thought they were great. I rank Walking on Sunshine as one of the greatest Pop songs ever.

And Hitchcock!!! The guy is awesome.

How’s the birthday bash looking?

Something for the cool club.

LOL - love my birds!
Full disclosure - I’m just starting a Tbird build that will feature two Jazz (actually dual Bartolini in line coils in Jazz enclosures) pickups where they can really shine along with a DiMarzio One pickup at the neck all tied into a two band active preamp. Should be another screamer with enough grit and growl to peel wall paper off the walls, that is IF the walls are still standing when the DiMarzo is kicked in. In any case it’ll be another reimagining of one of the finest basses ever built - the Reverse Tbird. Stay tuned.
Can't wait to see this build!!

I always thought it would be funny if Type-O Negative did a cover of Walking on Sunshine.

I don't think Cream was really meant to last, I do think it was three guys that came together at the right time in their lives to make some truly great music.
They all made each other better, especially Ginger Baker. The guy that suffered the breakup the most was Clapton, he lost his best influences.
When he was barely in high school, around 2005, my son asked me why Eric Clapton was just like coffee. I was stumped. He told me both suck without cream. I drink black coffee and like it. Was he telling a joke?

Sorry. It didn’t paste. Here it is:
https://reverb.com/item/83458925-gibson-thunderbird-2001-sunburst

It comes up at $1795 when viewing through my Reverb app.
That one looks like its finish is a bit less worn than mine. Both the '91 that is now refinished and the '01 were worn through the finish along the top edge of the raised center neck-through section. That one looks like its owners and players didn't chew it up there.

Had to think about that! My EBO was only about 10 years old when I got it, but the finish was thoroughly thrashed. Somehow the peghead had remained attached.
The punk rock chick I bought it from said her band was recording and the engineer told her to get another bass 😀
I'd've told the engineer to F.O.!
