Thunderbird Club

So far it’s lovely! Though it was used the plastic film was still on the pick guard and rear cover. No fret wear. I don’t much care for the round wounds on it and will be swapping those out for flats soon.
A number of us are partial to Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats. Cobalt Rounds will chew up a concrete sidewalk, let alone fingers and frets. Those aren't a great option. The flats are bright and stay bright for a very long time. They sound a lot like properly broken in nickel rounds to my ear.

Anyone use LaBella Flats on their TBirds? How about TI Jazz flats?

Dang, since this is the first bass I’ve ever bought used and it came with no literature/case/info- I have no idea what the string gauges are on it. Can someone help me out?

Ummm…so…let’s just say I happened to buy that VP 2022 model for $550. How do I get my Thunderbird Club number and is there a secret handshake?
Congratulations! Veronica @TBird1958 will fill you in on the particulars. I joined so long ago I don’t recall what all they made me do. It was sort of embarrassing though.

Hope you make it to the next GTG.

For anyone looking at the $630 dollar Greco, it weighs 9.37 lbs, if that matters. If it had chrome PUPs I would have already pulled the trigger
I keep hoping someone else will buy it. I have two already.
Anybody who hasn't left a headstock mark in the ceiling is a drummer and only a drummer. Or maybe keys player. I'm pretty sure Veronica is tall enough to leave hair dents.
Especially in heels.

Recently picked up some of the LaBella Low Tension flats, but I haven't put them on anything. I'll offer my thoughts once I have and have played them a little.

Soooo ... let's just say you got a sweet deal and your number will show up shortly!
No secret handshake but at least once a month you have to publicly disparage Thunderbirds so the prices don't go up even more.
Speaking of which, never point the headstock at anyone you care about; they tend to fly off at lethal speeds on their own whims.

45-105 are pretty typical. I have used Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats, SIT Power Flat, and TI Flats (red silks - much lower tension) on a JC.

Yeah I seem to remember something in the wiki about the risk of carving your guitarist in twain. Luckily it hasn't happened to me yet.

So, what’s a fair price for a Tbird made in 2022 in Indonesia? Here’s a pic of the body…

I haven't been keeping up with used prices, but would think $600 for one in great shape would still be a very good buy, if not a little more if it's what you want. White seems to be the more rare if that matters. I got my white one for $570 from Sam Ash (said it was used, but there was zero indication it was ever played), my '17 was $399 but has a common neck crack which is hardly noticeable and affects nothing as the strings keep it closed not opening up. And I put a little glue in there, what I could get anyway. Might look for a side neck shot near the nut.

Two things about this bass:
Still has the plastic on the pickguard.
Intonation is set and not completely maxed out.
And, it look great!

Not me. Sixteen going on seventeen Thunderbirds and not a one wears flats. And most likely never will. But that’s just me.

I use EBCFs on all my birds, though I am probably going to try a pair of Black Nylons on the CP, just because everything is black and white there. And black nylons look sexy.

ahem?
