Thunderbird Club

Oh, the Goldie is DEFINITELY up to snuff. It just didn't have the "it" factor for me. Les Pauls are unforgiving bastards. There is virtually no consideration to player comfort or ergos. The Les Paul does not come to YOU... YOU go to IT. It's a love/hate thing. I would LOVE to have it in a collection... but as my ONLY bass (especially just starting out)... I just want play man. I ain't looking' for a fight.

No fighting round here bro.
And that is a sweet Ric!

To @Gaolee's point about affordability of EBs, Zzounds has a "new" 2013 (RH) 5-string EB for $750 (with case). Something that I find strange is Guitar Center's site has a "new" 2013 4-string EB listed at $999, which was retail in 2013. They have the 2017 listed at the same price point, while they have the 2017 5-string at $350 more than the Zzounds' price for the same 2013 model.

I was actually talking about "fighting" with the bass. One of my favorite features in this forum, is the zero A-hole tolerance. I LOVE the fact that a guy who's just starting out & only has a $300 bass, is treated with the same consideration, respect, and encouragement as a person who's been playing for 20 years & has a collection of high-dollar customs! You guys rock!

My bad on the misunderstanding Fixer.
I hear ya on not having to fight the instrument for sure.
I'm a picky-ooon bastard, so regardless of what bass I may be after, if it doesn't speak to me and not feel right, that's an absolute, no way!

GC has some great prices on the 2013/14 EB's. Was looking today.
Never played one as I've not seen any here in NYC.
Used that is, well duh, of course.

There's gotta be a TalkBass club for this. :)
THIS is the Ric I told you about. It's a 4003S. I'd never picked it up before today. As much as I know you wanna hear me say "Thunderbird"... I'm thinkin' I'll be sayin' "Rickenbacker"! This thing is AmAzInG!!! I wouldn't care if it was shaped like an aardvark, & painted like a little girl's bedroom! If it had THAT neck on it, I would play it everyday! 1 11/16" at the nut, with a much less noticeable taper than say, a Jazz bass. In addition to the natural finish (as opposed to glossy), the neck is the same plump thickness at the nut, as it is at the 20th! I have a guitar like that, & I love it to death!!! Right now... I gotta say THIS fella has a pretty firm grasp on the number 1 slot on my list!

Oh man thats too bad, we were getting used to having you around here.:(

Maybe you oughta look & see if you can wrap your hand around one of these!
I'm playing inexpensive models until I can get saved up for something a little more up-scale. I really dig Rics, that's what I'm likely saving for, and I'm not jealous. I'm not. Not at all.

Nope. I'm not I said...

I do however dig my Bird, it's a project... as you can see by the missing p'up and new pick guard. I'm like a few of us here, income doesn't allow for much splash. Been fun to play it though, and I get regular comments on sound and look. It's a sweet player as well. Maybe there'll be an up-scale Bird down the road too.

But I'm stashing away my nickels and dimes...

Well... if/when you go Ric shopping, remember that the 4003S has a different neck than the 4003.

Also... I bet your Queen could answer some questions, and maybe even help you find your way into a Lull pickup for your bird. I've never heard anything but the best about them!

Am I the only person who finds it odd that Rickenbacker puts their guitar's serial numbers on a removable/replaceable part???:eyebrow:
No, you aren't. 7ender did the same thing for a while. Serial numbers on neck plates. Those are on and off, at least a bit, to adjust the neck on plenty of them, too. You can swap those around all you want, too. I would think any instrument with a detachable neck should have a serial on the neck and on the body, just like a car has a serial on the body and another on the engine. Or just don't bother with a serial at all.

Looks great mate. I reckon a Thunderbird would make a great stablemate to that st some stage.

There seems to be a bit of a nexus with Ricks & Birds

I've noticed that as well. So... here's my idea. We talk the good folks at Rickenbacker into buying the rights for the bird from Gibson. Ya get where I'm goin' with this? That's right... the "Rickenbird"!!!
