What I meant by "fighting with the bass", was this:
Jazz basses, pretty much anything by Ibanez, most high dollar customs, etc., all have body contours, rounded edges, special cutaways, and so on... all to make the instrument more comfortable for the player. The instrument "comes to you" to some degree. Those early '50's P-basses, Les Paul basses, Telecasters, and let's not forget the beloved hollow bodies... they have none of those things. It's like the manufacturer sayin', "Hey... THIS is how we build our guitar. If you like it, and want to play it... THIS is what you're up against (quite literally)". YOU have to "go to the instrument". For instance... I loved the tone of the Les Paul so much, that I was willing to go without the lighter weight, body contours, etc. of a Strat. Yawmsayin'?
