Thunderbird Club

I think most companies were producing substandard products in the later 70's. From my understanding even Les Paul's from that era were not the greatest. But not having played one, it's just what I've heard from some people.

Yes, it was across the board. But despite that fact, certain individual products (using Fender as an example) still survived and rose close to their high-point benchmark. I nearly bought a '78 Jazz bass and could find no wrong with it. In the end I decided I really didn't need another J.

Well, they don't stay shiny forever.....went to the studio with the band and recorded 8 new songs in 2 days. The good news? The tone of the recorded Thunderbird (direct+Orange OB-1 500 amp through 1x12 Ear candy cabinet miked, along with a room mike about 3ft out) sounds awesome and massive.

The down side? My Thunderbird fell about 6ft from a hanging spot on the wall onto a bunch of other gear and then the floor. The head stock stayed on and there are no cracks but I now have "story" that explains the chips & dents.

Was hanging here:

I had the headphone cord run through the strap to keep it away from my strings. I hung the bass up and did not realize it was wrapped around my ankle. As I walked over to the mixing desk to listen to a play back I pulled it from the wall.

These are the scars...

Having done similar but less grandiose "smooth moves" with a couple of my basses, I just want to say that I feel your pain.

Wow that must have hurt. Great sticker, though.

I went over to the Ric club to try to learn about that 4003SW. What a worthless *<expletive deleted>*!!!
I found One Word Johnny. The only time he offered more than one word, was when we were off-topic. Not a lot in the way of help going' on over there.

When you think of Geddy Lee you think of Rickenbacker and Fender Jazz. Not often or ever do you picture him like this.View attachment 1154676 View attachment 1154677

I was surprised when he busted out the NR on the r40 tour. Usually Alex changes guitars almost every song and geddy has just a handful of jazz basses. The R40 tour was like he went on a bass binge and had to justify to his wife that he actually plays all of them :) I had video of almost the whole tour closer but that phone got stolen :banghead::mad::poop::rage:

WOW!!! Impressive Photoshoppin'

Despite the pixels you think you can see, geddy did rock those, at least the NR on the 2015 tour. He even played a p bass and some custom jobbies I had no idea what they were.

He sounded like geddy Lee on every one ;)

He'd probably sound like Geddy even with a shovel strung with flats  (going back to the "no one in the audience will tell the difference")

Everything Geddy does, he does to the max. He has a huge collection of basses, wines, and baseball cards/memorabilia. Like all the members of Rush, he is also not stingy; his philanthropy is anonymous, but he makes very large donations to a number of causes. I am personally aware of some of his contributions to global development.

No matter what he does or what he is playing, he always sounds like Geddy. Listen to him play with Yes at the RRHoF.
