@theFixer I know you have mentioned you need a bigger neck on your bass. I know of two options that can get you a fat (or fatter) neck on a Bird Shaped Object. My first thought defaults to a custom by either Cataldo or Lowe. I believe either one will give you a neck size that you are after. There is a used Cataldo G8R sitting on eBay now that someone should have bought already!!

The only other brand I can think of with larger than normal necks (for a Bird) is an old Hamer. Those have wide necks that are somewhat rounded but they are a handful for me. The Hamers are difficult to find and will probably cost as least as much as Cataldo's starting price but they are GREAT basses!!

The beauty of going thru a builder like Carlo or Brad Lowe is that you have options that you will not have with most basses. If I was in a position to buy a nice bass right now I would be speaking to those two members.

Every now and then I see a Hagstrom 8 string for sale in my local listings and if that bass sounds as awesome as it looks than its like getting double the value. I just dont know until I try.

Yes it mounts using the existing footprint and insert, anchors and tailpiece are part of the package. Sorry just nickel available.

Im with you on that big time. This is the first time I ever saw that concept 1:41 forward, could be where it came from.

I got my dunlop straplocks installed with my gibson strap and i love it. Very comfortable and zero neckdive whatsoever. I used to avoid thunderbirds because i heard they dive so bad but nope. Not this one. Love the gibson modern vintage strap also. Thick leather and fits my shoulder perfectly.

I really dont think they would mind and I dont care if they did but quite honestly I get a whole lot of respect from them as I am the riff master that creates the majority of our sound. We have a great respect for each other so a 5er would do not dissapoint.

As long as you feel free to make your own calls regarding what instrument you're using and make your choices based out of respect for your band mates, as opposed to choosing your instrument based on a fear of getting' the boot or sup'm... then I withdraw my previously exuded 'tude. In fact... I'm happy for you! It sounds like you have a good, healthy band situation. Obviously, I don't know you outside of this forum... but you impress me as a musician who is capable of selecting a 5, or 10, or 30 stringed bass, and playing what is best for the band and each song with it. Don't let that river of respect run so deep that you can't see the bottom. You might pass right over the gold! Yawmsayin'?

No apologies required, a bit of good ol' fashioned defensive advice is always welcome. Your "Don't let that river of respect run so deep that you can't see the bottom" quote is pretty useful advice as well.

Funny you should mention Cataldos. I've actually been talking with @Dadagoboi about this subject. After checking out the Cataldo website, well... let's just say I had to change my pants for the second time since meeting you guys (the first time, was when I saw that chrome over burgundy 'bird belonging to @TBird1958)! Cataldo is definitely hovering right close to the number one position on my list of possibilities!

Couple o' fine lookin' boom sticks ya got there! I never knew Hamer made a version of the 'bird...

I have seen all kinds of bass guitars used for all kinds of genera of music over the years. Since I've been here... you guys have opened your vault of knowledge and experience to me, and I have been reaching in & grabbing as much of it as I can. I have little to offer in return, except for an extensive catalog of mistakes, bad decisions, missed opportunities, and a fairly thorough understanding that we only get to go around once. Everyone in this forum with whom I've interacted, has my support and admiration. If there is anything I can do or say that will help keep any of you from derailing or otherwise pissin' away the one life you have...I will consider it a massive victory. With the exception of my three beautiful daughters... the last 15 - 20 years of my life has turned to dust, and means nothing. Though it's awesome beyond description, to have passion and purpose again... starting over at 47 years old, just sux. No matter what life hands you... ALWAYS keep music in your hearts, and basses in your hands!

Yep. My 2015 could no doubt hang in a country band given the versatility of the pickups. It can get to close to a p bass sound (with rounds). No idea what it'lll sound like with flats. I think you dont see Birds in country music because Fender is king in that genre. Telecasters and Ps (and an occasional J) are what have been the norm for 60 years. Although Mosrites did get a bit of traction in the sixties as part of the Bakersfield Sound. If I could stand it, I'd watch Hee Haw reruns and take a count of what is played. But you couldn't pay me enough to endure that (and I like Buck).

Nobody... and I mean NOBODY could rock a Nudie suit like the Buckaroos! The Flying Burrito Brother's gave it a good go... but the trophy goes to Buck!

I love watching old HEE HAW reruns! The trick is... ya gotta have a taste for the "campy". If/when you get a chance... try watching it because it sux, instead of avoiding it because it sux (being in an altered state don't hurt either)!

Though it's true that Fender had a grasp on the show... it's fun to see what kinda kooky stuff would show up! Weird off-beat Ovations, Mosrites, and unrecognizables made their way on that stage! Peavey T-40s & T-60s were semi-common too. Through the 70's & much of the '80's, Peavey amps were on every Country & Western stage in every studio, county fair, & bar room as well!

Well... THAT didn't take long. 3 of the 6 guys in my "band" just quit. It was just soooooper nice of them to wait until 2 hours before practice to do it. Friggin' clowns.

Oh well. That gives me more time in the wood shed. I can always use that.
