Thunderbird Club

Yes it mounts using the existing footprint and insert, anchors and tailpiece are part of the package. Sorry just nickel available.
Hmm. I like the look of it, and I'm steering towards a look here for my 'Bird. I may get into pups too, even having an Ebony board put on it instead of the Rosewood w Iron Crosses motif, no position markers at all...
I really do like this cheap-O bolt-On 'Bird. I just wonder if maybe I should splash for a nice up-scale model instead, then do the heavy mods.

I in fact do like single single pick up birds best, but I wouldn't kick a two pickup Tbird out of bed. Not to say that I don't have a fair amount of two , three, or even four pickup basses. For me the bridge pickup just gets in the way of my playing style so I crank them down as low as they can go and shut them off. One of the few exceptions is a Gibson EB3, the bridge pickup is a necessity!
Thanks.
I was wondering if a pickup switch takes the bridge out of circuit completely, so a similar effect to just have 1 pickup. Or if it is more similar to just having the vol way down?

Well, I knew Buck a little, having met and talked to him at his Crystal Palace several times and a few times at the Seven Oaks Country Club in Bako. He was a good guy. Gave a lot to his community. Most of it anonymously. He mentored several up and comers. He was a bit crazy, but not off the wall crazy. Best fiddle player I ever heard. He was a very talented writer. Heck, the Beatles covered two of his songs. He quit wearing Nudies years before he passed away. But yep, he sure looked good in one. RIP Buck. You are missed.
I know the one, What's the other?

That is no doubt a nice bass at what seems to be a good price. Not my cup of tea, but I hope someone here snatches it up.
Actually I have my eye on a goth right now but it would be a mail order purchase so no opportunity to try before I buy. With that in mind, how would a Goth compare to my Gold Anniversary Gibson Bird?
Are they voiced the same?
I know the Goth is bolt on, does it weigh a lot more than my golden bird? Neck dive?
It's made in China, is that an issue?
Any particular watch outs with the Goth?

FWIW - I played one in a GC about 5 years ago and that was what turned me on to the TBird world. I remember loving the sound and feel but I don't actually recall many of the specifics, so any comparative info would be of great help.

I can relate. Don't let it suck... like Bowie sings in that tune "Kooks", on Hunky Dory: "all that happened in your past happened in your mind, only in your mind..."

Reinvent yourself, use the best that you have left in you as your foundation. Build something you love and can live with. That's it man.

And I agree with you about Carlo's axes. I need a nice, kickin' axe and he's also on my list. So far I've got $60 socked away. Talk to you in a year!
Yep, they do look great.

Would a dark Sharpie pen 'take down' those Iron Crosses in the meantime?

Also, for the last week or so the multi quote function hasn't worked via my phone. iPhone 7.
So excuse the multiple one reply posts.

For 'taking them down' a peg, that might be functional. Good, simple idea- my favorite kind that I don't think of! Thanks @RedVee

First... I want you to know that I appreciate you.

Second... I would love to be able to hear magical words that could make the last couple years of my life just, go away. Much of it has, and more of it will... but my daughters, as wonderful as they are, and as much as I love them... are a constant reminder that I gave away 22 years of my one time around, to someone who placed no value in it at all. IMHO... that is one of the biggest failures that can ever be committed. It doesn't have anything to do with who's right or wrong. It has to do with putting 100% of yourself into that which matters the most to you, and having it amount to jack friggin' squat. I desperately wish it was just "all in my head"... but that's just a fantasy. This is as real as it gets.

Third... I'm working on the reinvention. Finding the bass, was both the gasoline and the match. My fire is burning, and I'll be dead before I ever let it go out. I'm building a different me than I've ever known... and this guy plans on doing' some smilin'!

Thanks man.

I would never try to make light of anyone''s life. Just putting mojo in the pot. Go man!

There is that stigma attached to any item with a label stating "Made in China". I was pretty pleased at the overall finish and sound quality of my Epi Bird as I stood at the counter making the deal. When I got home and had more time to study it I found a small oval sticker that read "Made in China", then I got scared. I had been studying Chinese counterfeits on Youtube for some time and now I thought I had been ripped off and was starting to freak out, I thought I had a candy coated piece of :poop:. After playing it for an amount of time I thought how could that be?, am I just wrong about this?. It was when I started monkeying around under the control panel and switching pickups out for upgrades that I realized it was not made of particle board after all. Its been a solid champ, China did good by me and Im impressed. Just stay clear of AliExpress as thats where all of the Made In China counterfeits come from.

I use Fiebing's leather dye both to 'ebonize' rosewood (top neck)

and with extra application to black out dots (on the white MAX).

Sharpie also works, touch up as necessary.

Well my bad. I was thinking Matchbox was an Owens tune because I heard him play it several times. It isn't. It's a song Carl Perkins recorded but didn't write. And in researching it, Buck didn't write Act Naturally. I always assumed he did. That doesn' lessen my admiration for Buck as a performer or writer. But the record should be straight.
