Thunderbird Club

This is one for you all that have experience with band dynamics. I'm not sure how to get things back on track, if even possible. Before adding a lead singer, the band had a few goals. 1) get a mini-set together and play out. That was accomplished. 2) put together a full 45-50 minute set so we can play a shared stage event (3 bands). 3) consider 2 45s. Well, we had 9 songs in the bag and really only needed 1 more for for the first 45.

New singer comes in and says he doesn't want to sing 3 of the ones we already knew. So, we add 4 new songs. Those are pretty much done. Now he says he doesn't do shared stage events and only is interested in 2 45s that pay. OK, I say I am gone the entire month of October and to not slow things down, I list all the songs I already know that also fit our genre and say, pick 3 or so to work on while I'm gone and when I come back I can step right in and not slow down progress. The response was to start listing songs that not one of us know but the lead singer. His voice fits what we are doing, but I'm starting to get the feeling he only wants things his way.

Is it time to have a discussion with the other original band members and air my concerns and see how they want to handle things? Being gone a month and having to catch up on 5 songs, while needing to add 5 more isn't a quick process for me. I want to be fair to the band and not be an obstacle to playing out in the near term.
Talk to the other guys.
But to me, it’s goodbye to the new singer. Unless you are happy to just be his backing band?

@Stealth57 a few thoughts just popped into my head.

Do you guys have a veto system? Were you can each veto 1 or 2 (whatever number) songs that you just can’t stand?
Are the songs he wants actually ok by you, except that they are new and need to be learnt?

Looking for a positive, you guys will have these other songs you already know to include on occasions where the singer may be unavailable. You still have them up your sleeve if you need them for an occasional set.

We didn’t need a veto system previously as we’d just discuss what fit and was within our skill set. Now, things are getting pushed in different directions, Beatles, America, Pink Floyd, Queen (right), Gilmore, The Cure, Jeff Beck (right)…no theme, just a hodgepodge.

The sound out front was evidently pretty good, onstage was difficult, I haven't screwed up that much in a long, long time.
Sorry you didn't think you had a good show. It sounded great to me from the video. This situation is pretty common for me in NYC. I've just learned to use the Force. Trust my playing and pay attention to the drummer and the rest.

And so begins(actually yesterday)my 80th year on the planet. I'm doing all I can to contain my excitement. :meh:
That's great! Not that it feeeels great sometimes. Happy Glad You Were Born Day!

I was counting up...man, that was a really long time ago.

I found a pic of you in younger days.

We've all been there--more than we want to recall. I bet your playing was better than you think. We are hard on ourselves and are a ware of ever note we miss--or extra one's we add. I know once I do it a a couple times I sometimes start getting self-conscious and sometimes it snowballs. The good thing is I bet the audience had no clue. I've had funky days and talked about messing up simple things I know and others said they didn't notice. JT even said he messes up and can affect his playing the rest of the night. (Something like that.) If true for a great player like him that makes me feel a little better.

Absolutely. The longer you wait, the more painful things will get. Sorry, my friend. Ugh.

Does anyone want this:

It’s headstock is broken off, and the description mentions dents and some scratches that can’t be noticed in the pictures.

I bought it for the pickups/rings, bridge saddles and Epiphone gig bag that will come with it.

I’ll give the rest away to anyone that wants it just for the cost of shipping.

Hell yeah! I got dibs.
I’ll cut the neck out and put in a bolt on.
