Thunderbird Club

Yes, noticeable, more so when also moving the 500. Not a huge difference but I would rather carry the 300 than the 500. That said, barely had the 300 output opened--not much different than the 500. (With the detents it's hard to compare. I was in between two notches.) But no drummer or percussion. I can see how the 300 would work well for 90% of gigs. Plenty of power.

I had emailed Ashdown Monday. Dave Green replied this morning:
The amplifiers are completely different so there will be some variation between the two units. Without actually hearing the noise level I cannot say if it is normal or not. The 300 does have a slight amount more noise than the earlier 500 but it should not be excessive.

I'll know more later today, when I A/B them at church. I had to listen for it in a big room and things going on like talking. At home, with nothing else it's obviously more noticeable.
Well, y'know it ain't rock and roll without some 60 cycle hum. An original 360 has a bit of buzz at idle. Always, has since I have owned it, and it was recapped shortly before I got it. The buzz disappears immediately when the guitarist fires up his amp, which is a newer Fender and has a whole lot more buzz even when he's playing a guitar with humbuckers. It's all relative. I figure it's just the 360 letting me know it's alive and happy and ready to make long, penetrating soundwaves.

Brain Salad Surgery tour when these guys could do no wrong.....

Mashing it up into attitude. I miss playing this kind of thing on the upright. It's a workout and makes for blisters if you aren't in practice, but it sure is a blast. Peter Gunn is hiding in there, and when we did it, it started with Peter Gunn.

Good point. Some of it may be, having never heard it before, and a touch of OCD that might cause some over sensitivity to such things. The 500 has some, which is mostly covered by the 2 fans, so I never noticed it. But both tube heads all are silent as I recall, and they have a bunch of little antennas in them.

Jeff, if you ever need a temporary place to land I have an open door for you. Besides, I need a curator and maintenance manager for my vast bass collection.;)
I would have taken you up on that :smug:
But all settled in a nice place here.

Doesn’t mean I couldn’t spend 6 months out of the year at your place.
😊

I think it’s reasonable to expect a modern amp to be fairly quiet.
I don’t play my 1970 100w Marshall tube power amp at home much because it has some 60hz hum. There’s nothing wrong with it, it’s just the nature of the beast.
When I take it out for a gig, I don’t notice the noise.

…shipping companies standards have really gone downhill…

Nah, this is going to Ray after I strip it of what I want. I got it for parts only.

On another note, is there a record of pickup placement of the new ‘64’s vs the VP’s?

Anyone ever try a bass through a Bugera T50 Infinium? 50W tube guitar amp. Local has one in like new condition for maybe as low as $200.

I don't know what that specific amp is supposed to be, my Bugera is a 150W 1960 Marshall Plexi clone, when you turn it up a bit, it's quite good, not too bass heavy which is ok by me.
