Yes, you are likely right as the ABM is more valuable/desirable, depending on wants I suppose. Just depends on shipping cost of the 31lb(?) 500. I might clear the same amount by shipping a 5lb head. It's one of the nice one's that has more goodies/knobs than the current versions. I like that it's got a headphone jack. Not to mention you don't hear the fan. I got both used, so depreciation already happened.

I don’t recall the shipping cost of the 27 pound Carbine from NY to CA. I don’t think is was horrible. Now an SVT on the other hand…

It’s Father’s Day in Australia (& NZ I think). First Sunday in September every year.*

Daughter, Son in Law, and grandson took my wife and I to a local French Bistro for lunch yesterday.
I enjoyed Boeuf Bourbignon very much.

Dinner with the other kids tonight.

(*Date is different to move it into early spring rather than winter. Also so it fits nicely spaced with other holidays).
Enjoy!

In that case, Happy Father's Day!

Glad you're getting a new one, they are a good amp!
Thank you. Kind of a foolish buy, but the more I use ABMs the more I like them. And if you are going to play, might as well enjoy it as much as possible. One day you won't be able to. Possibly the 300, said to have more punch, can replace the Ampeg BH tube head one day. I have the 500 to where I can use any bass and they sound very pleasing. Only a couple sound a little better with all the tubes, and a few do need an ABM.

Love how you’re eq’ing yours.
That’s the Ashdown tone that I know.

Its interesting, Taking a lot of the lowest frequency out really helps "push" the rest out into the room, there's still plenty of bass and it's defined, you can discern individual notes out front. I was a bit surprised by the band that followed us last Friday, the guy was playing a P bass and was not using an amp, he was a bit "flubby" and too bassy, the played "Barracuda" by Heart and he was a wash of indistinction, not that he played badly. I am digging that amp, it's so much like my Trace Elliott!

We were pretty fired up and full of piss and vinegar.

I think that’s what some people don’t get by rolling off lows, not only are you protecting the speakers, you actually gain a little volume, really I should say headroom.
Not to mention clarity in tone.
But you get it.

I think if it fuels your creativity, it can't be foolish - you may find a tone that you never knew you'd like with it.

Your sound goes out into the room much better, a sound guy that works with us regularly out Pt. Angeles was really helpful quite a few years back.

I may try to replicate (approximate) what you posted. Would be a fun change, and could fit a few songs we do.

Leon generally bi-amped. Had a lot up top going on and massive lows at the same time.

My typical settings that seem to work great with any bass, with only a very minor adjustment to bass or mids. Very different from Chuck or V's settings. But my cabs have plenty of lows and low mids baked in.

a J bridge pup with the tone rolled off would probably honk though those settings....

Does the RM sound similar to the ABM series? Does it get that nice growl?
