Thunderbird Club

It’s why I still very much like the 212AV.
Even though it’s ported, the lows roll off at around 71Hz.
So even as a 4ohm cabinet, it’s also not the most efficient.
But it does give it the feel and sound of a sealed box.

If I could only afford a Berg NV610.
But of course I’d have no need for one.

Thing that would make the most sense for me is to just get another Eich 112XS.

Then I’d have a 4ohm system.
He did a special run of the NV610 last year. It sold out instantly. This year was the NV410T special run. They also sold out. They’re heavy. But probably the best sealed cabs made. I love my NV610 with the SVT. So does my audience of bears, coyotes, squirrels, and mountain lions.

Did a short notice, one-off trio gig last night, no set list, just shooting from the hip for about four hours. Really fun, the guitar player just kept starting tunes and there we went. I knew all but a couple- that were in the library but not in the hands.
Again I came away realizing my Classic Pro is the best player in the stable. Wearing it close to the knees these days, lol, super-natural. Love that bass.
Cool! Missed you the last few weeks Roger. Good to see you back.

Yeah, I know.
No doubt really great cabinets.
But especially cost wise, which would make no sense for me.
For me, as I said, another 112 to match would I have now would be perfect.
Still makes for a portable light weight rig. Even if I ever did go out with the Fender TB1200.
Which is supposed to arrive tomorrow if Fedmess doesn’t decide to route through Ohio, even though says on its way from Charlotte, N.C.
😂

I wish all my basses were as easy to play as my CP!

I couldn't get the necessary headroom with that setup, but we have 3 guitars in our band :woot:
The V4B/212AV is used in my heavier downtuned band, but it stays in our small rehearsal space where my two guitarists use small 1x12 cabs and lower powered tube heads. It’s perfect there. I have no idea if it would keep up live, but I suspect it would.

Yessir... I was actually thinking that drilling from the post hole to the cavity would maybe be 'easier' - bigger target - if the small diameter allows for adequate angle without the bit scraping the opposite side.
Heavy tape protection is a must.
I think it will be easier from the cavity given the distance.

Yeah that's 2 extra guitars!
Although I’m sure you’re joking, I can say I like that I have both situations going. Having done more time in a power trio that with 2 guitars/bass/drums, having the 2nd guitarist in my heavier band adds A LOT as far as possibilities in writing as well as tone, harmonies etc. And, not to mention another brain to put forth ideas. Also, that band has three vocalists.

For sure! It's all about the players. 2 guitars requires them to stay out of each other's way. And realistically most recorded rock music has at least 2 guitar parts, even if there's only one in the band.
Three guitarists obviously can work as well, but they better know what they're doing!

the "Flat Shape" button almost acts like the ultra lo on the SVT....the bass control was the volume knob last night.....love when I can get the amp dialed in like that..,,
I'm not getting any honk, fortunately. Even with the old J and DTFs.

I'm going to have to experiment with the shape engaged and work the EQ to see what I can get out of it. On occasion I would use the ultra low on the Ampegs. I liked the big sound and it doesn't turn to mush. With the eq flat on the ABM if I hit the shape it seems to get too loose and ill-defined. But I only tried that in a band setting a couple times and briefly.

Ask Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchett, Iron Maiden, Eagles, Allman Brothers; others my tired, ol' brain can't recall ATM.
Our normal configuration is 2 guitars, drums, bass. All four sing. Whichever guitar is soloing, the other just plays changes. They stand next to each other and stay outta each other's way musically.

Does the RM sound similar to the ABM series? Does it get that nice growl?
Yes, similar. With both flat the 500 has more heft and beef. But it did with the 300 I sent back as well. So I turn the lows up more than on the ABM. You can tell they are the same family and one's not an Ampeg, for example. Same warm, thick tone. The "drive" on the RM while not sounding exactly like the tube in the ABM, does sound good and adds something in the middle like the tube does and makes it sound less like a SS head. It's not cheesy sounding, unless you go crazy with it. I use it to thicken things up, but for someone liking more OD it can do that. All that to say they sound similar but not exactly the same.

 Less than an inch from the post center, looks like.
Didnt really visualize they were so close.
Used to thinking in P-bass terms.
Pretty trivial after all.

Plugged the side jack hole.
Occurs to me that if I dont like how the plug looks after sanding it down, I can re-drill it centered & cover the whole mess almost entirely with a jack plate.

Originally was going to recess the plug and then putty. Chickened at the last minute and moved it out so I can sand flush instead. Grain might match but there'll be a fill 'ring' to deal with. Hole was raw. Looked like they used a spade bit.

The edge roundover will almost certainly get into the plugged void. Cavity cover recess might, too. Not much wood left there.

Pretty sure I'm going to sanding-seal all the edges before finishing, so the black burst can show no grain on the edges while the gold top and back will.

The gouge fill by the pocket will be smooth no matter what. Had to build it out with epoxy wood, then will sand back, so it wont have 'grain' that matches.

Near 90 in the garage. Time to move inside and work on cover recess template design.
