Thunderbird Club

Hey Geoff @RedVee,

Our friend @DJ Bebop posted this with a Sklar solo beginning around 12:00 over in the Mesa Club. Sklar also talks about a project with Thorpe and Fleetwood they were discussing before Thorpe passed.

Thanks Marshall & @DJ Bebop

That was awesome. Great solo by Lee, and Billy is a rock legend. That was quite the power trio!

The sheer volume will cover the distance!
I’m not about the volume though.
Of course I dig the headroom.
But it’s the way the amp was designed.
That power section is phat.
And the pre section is so easy to dial in a great tone.
Who knew I’d dig the Fender tone stack.
Well, with this amp……..

The Arrival.

O! M! G!

First off, this amp is brand new, fresh outta the box.
Came in its original packaging, footswitch and all……

All I did right now is set it flat, no overdrive engaged, no room balance, no vari-q.

It’s sounds freakin incredible through the Eich cabinet.

I think this is the first ever plug and play amp that sounds awesome right out of the box.
Having 2 tubes in the pre section is a game changer.

Later on I’ll start trying all its options along with the Empress, which is still not engaged, just in the loop.

Looks to be quite the score!

Yeah, congrats Jeff. Fender’s shot over the bow of GK, Berg, Mesa, Aguilar, and the rest. I’m wondering how much that is the result of the Genz-Benz deal. A Bassman was my first real amp. That is a completely different animal.
I guess they missed, since they don't seem to make anything like this? Referring to their success with it, not the amp itself.

I suddenly find myself in possession of a Gibson Thunderbird! I’ve wanted one of these for a long time, but could never find one locally for a decent price. I was in Dallas for a work event today and saw one listed on Facebook Marketplace for a price so low I could not resist ($1,200). It’s a 2014 walnut finish, which someone was kind enough to upgrade with a Babicz bridge and a Hipshot detuner. How did I do, boys?

You did great!

Well, poor marketing. I vaguely knew of it. And wrong time. The Bassman, and additional distractions. Like a recession.

Oh my god. You made out like a Texas outlaw. ‘14 is a good year. The Babicz is the best bridge available. Put SIT Powersteels on it and rock!

Nice! I have a 2014 and it’s my favorite bass.

Beautiful wood on that, really a nice score, much as I love chrome, that black hardware looks sharp with the natural finish. As Marshall said, SIT Powersteels do sound pretty nice with those pickups - Congratulations and let me know if you'd like a club number.

Edit: NVM on the number, you already have one from quite some time back, #84 :)

Thank you for the reminder! I briefly owned an Epiphone TBird many years ago, so that must have been when I applied.

I just installed a set of EB cobalt flats on this thing and WOW! This is the sound I’ve been hearing in my head for so long, finally materialized. I’m so happy!
