Thunderbird Club

EMG's (their low impedance active pu's) were/are especially favored by metal guitarists because they deliver a clean, neutral sound, so when adding all their effects they remain clear and articulate. I have (9v active) EMGX J pu's in my Supersonic bass and they are exactly that - clean, clear and neutral. (...it's strung w/flats) My Russian (Moscow) guitarist/musician friend who worked for Avid (formerly Digi Design - he's a sonic scientist) played all my basses at one point and picked that bass as his favorite. I don't think I ever made it growl, but otherwise it sounds/records damn good.

For all your death metal needs!

thanks!.....dicking around in the studio decades ago....this one has an amusing story our guitarist/singer wrote about the owner of a club (called "La Comedia" where we used to play) who canned us after his wife came on to him....can't write this stuff.....

Totally digging this, Chuck!

Someone earlier said that Fender bass specs are relatively high action and although they were an improvement what my Jazz came with I decided on lowering the action so-

Instead of .012 at the 6th or 7th fret for trussrod setting I went with .008 and for the string height settings from the bridge (measurements taken at the 17 th fret I went as follows-

Instead of Fender's suggested 2.4 mm height for the E string, I went with 2.0 mm, and instead of 2.0 mm for the G string I went with a little less than 1.75.

Mind you this is what they recommend for a radius of 9.5.

No buzz thus far!

Any measurements you can share?

I don't measure. I check the relief by holding down the E string at each end and tapping it in the middle.
And I usually set the action where it feels good.

not much changes around here....

I've measured before a few times and set things to what was considered optimal but went back to adjusting till it feels right. Those were not the same for whatever reason.

On my own I wouldn't have known that about Palermo, however, George C. Scott mentions it in "Patton" which happens to be one of my all-time favorite movies. I firmly believe the man was put on this earth to play that role, he was brilliant.

Remembering (from an Axis perspective) the US/UK amphibious assault of Sicily in preparation for the invasion of the mainland which proved so costly reiterating Napoleon's view that Italy like a boot, best entered from the top....
