I have a great appreciation for Italian craftsmanship- I had some Venetian masks made, one of which was one of custom request- it's been a few years but one of them was La Fucina dei Miracoli out of Verona.

So I sent this one place a picture of this mask- which I was unable to find- so they made one out of scratch-

And here am I modeling the one they made for me-

I wanted them to make a replica of this one but they were having issues with creating the cracked porcelain look-

Then I lost touch with them- wound up going with another company, but they weren't able to replicate the second one so I went with these made by Original Venice, from, you guessed it, Venezia.

Then there was an individual working out of his own shop in Venice who made this for me and also a plague doctor mask which I don't have a photo of-

I’ll say it again. The Tbird+ pickups in my ‘06 Studio are awesome. That’s a decent price for a Studio considering it’s in OZ. But the shipping…ouch. And tax on top of that.

definitely prefer the tone of my 68 (heftier, more gain) than my 64...
The generally consistent story was that the NR pups tended to be a little hotter. I don't ever recall hearing why that seems to be true though.

Visiting with Donnie?
That would be good!

V you will appreciate this. Note the little sign between the two cabs. It's not readable but says "Ask me about my cats." Almost always there. He has a custom bass case made wood for tours that sits to the side with what he's using. On the ends it has a funky/cool looking cat (or two?) carved into/onto (don't recall) as part of the case. Very cool looking.

I can't believe the '68 is still around. It's waiting for someone here to bring it home.

I always thought the NR had a funky cool look. Nothing looks like them. Not so sure I don't like the looks better than the reverse.
We are all different. I flat do not like NR looks to the point i will probably never have one. I am shallow that way. More for those who like them. It is a service I provide.

I am guessing this one is early 90s? I didn't try to decode the serial number. It has a custom shop logo in it, which is on the three pickup Thunderbird, but which I have never seen otherwise. It must have been a special order finish. It looks great to my eyes.

Some don’t like a Jazz bass. That’s my second favorite looking bass, better than a P-bass (to me) for sure, but my P-basses get more playing time because mine (with the two P-bass pickup config) sound better than my Jazzes.

A Ric is a strangely cool yet kinda ugly looking bass to me, I have always found it kinda odd how the fretboard stops at the body, and I have come to prefer the less elaborate “S” model over the 4001/4003. I do love how a good one sounds and at this time I do not own one. I had a 2019 matte black 4003 that I recently let go for pretty cheap, mostly because I didn’t care for the matte finish, and even more, the neck was too chunky. I hope to find a newer single truss rod one for a good price, and if I like the neck profile better, will have one back in the collection someday. I have a MapleGlo 4003s/5 and it is the only five string I have ever liked, but it isn’t really a “Ric” sound. Close, but not exactly that growl.

I think they look kinda goofy.....like a restrained Explorer.....to each their own

See, to me an explorer has that cool but just “too much” look. At least as a bass. I know it’s a ‘50’s design (right?), but it’s so firmly ‘80’s hair metal in my mind. I think they are alright when they are guitars but I’d never own an explorer bass.

My guitarist in Bad Lemon just bought one, ‘2000’s in a dark wood, like walnut, color.

Are there even vintage explorer basses? Seems like they only made the bass version in the ‘80’s-‘90’s. I’d also have to guess they weren’t very awesome sounding?
