Thunderbird Club

Went by the post office by the airport. UPS World Port section is next to the PO.
You can see, some of their McDonnell Douglass MD-11's lined up and grounded after the crash here last Tues.

There is a massive UPS maintenance hanger out of the short to the right. They could pull no telling how many of their 747s in there.

Lots of concern over that crash. NPR ran an extensive piece yesterday about the collateral environmental damage. It sounds like it will take time to understand the damage to the river, streams and ponds in the area.

Hey guys, I currently own an Epi thunderbird, and I wanna get a real thunderbird for my birthday to upgrade ! Which one would be better between a post 2000s Thunderbird (which runs for under 2000 euros in France) or a 1977 Greco Thunderbird ? (around 1000 euros)
Thanks !
Short answer, buy both.

Seriously though, can you try them both? Both are good choices. But they are different. The Greco pickups are highly regarded around here. But their necks are chunkier than the Gibson reverses. And the Grecos have set necks. The Gibsons are neck through. The Grecos are slightly shorter scale than the 34 inch scale Gibsons. Some think circa 2001 Thunderbirds have the best iteration of the modern Tbird+ pickups.

My personal preference is Gibson. But there is a lot to be said for the Grecos. Hope you find one that chooses you.

And happy birthday!

Thanks for the answer, (and for the happy birthday) I'll try to try them both !

Marshall covered it. @MCF

Whereabouts in France?

I'm from the north !
As it happens, my wife and daughter are in Paris this week. They had pasta and truffles for lunch today.

That's nice ! I have family from there !
I absolutely hate truffles, but I just hate all type of mushrooms in general :')
If they like very fat donuts, they should try the Boneshaker Doughnuts at 86 Rue d'Aboukir, 75002 Paris, they're my favorite !
Also, even though it's very touristic, the tea spot 'Le loir dans la théière " is very nice at 3 Rue des Rosiers, 75004 Paris !
Hope they'll enjoy their stay there ;)

Lots of love for both here, the neck on a Gibson is a fine Racehorse, one of many reasons I love them.

A Greco is a bit more of a Carthorse when it comes to the neck, the pickup is the Sonic Destroyer of entire worlds, I highly recommend a II if you can find one.

Yes, I just thump along.

One discovery I made is that they are real instruments, not just “toys”. Though some fit into that category as well.
Had a older friend at church who was Hawaiian (not a Haole who happened to be born there), and he would play and sing. One might think it would sound cheap, toyish or something, but his sounded great and it was a thrill to get to hear him play and sing.

Yes, there are environment recovery trucks and workers on two big ditches near our church (which was 1.10 away from the end of the crash). They are still at those sites. I would think they would have recovered all or most all of it by now given the water flow. But not only the plane full of fuel and headed to Cal before heading to Hawaii it hit basically a used oil recovery company among other things). So what jet fuel didn't burn up, some of it ran into a waterway along with some of the old oil. I don't think it will be too bad. No ponds in that area and the two large ditches affected are miles from the Ohio river. I suspect they were able to get most of everything before it got the the river as they are very slow moving unless there is heavy rain.

I have a 2007 zebrawood reverse and it's the crown jewel of my collection. Not just for its looks, but because of its balance, weight, amd general feel. It's a dream to play. If it's at all representative of Gibson's output in the 00's, I'd say go for that, but lots of people do love their Grecos.

I will take a moment to gently chide you for insinuating Epis aren't real T-birds though. I think most anybody here would agree that even the bolt-ons are Thunderbirds, just of a different flavor.

(Edit: How rude of me not to add a Happy Birthday!)

Of those two, I’d take the Greco. The neck is a bit bigger (and the scale slightly shorter), but the pickups are to die for. For me, they play better than most bigger necks. I have two!
That said, I love Gibson necks. I just want an earlier one.

I have 4 Epiphone birds and two Grecos. I love them all.
