Having never been there, I would say from what I "know," heard...the weather would be the one thing that might have a chance of ever drawing me to Cal. There are many beautiful places (from what I can tell from the Rockford Files and Cannon anyway ;)), but so far every state I've been to has some unique beauty to offer. Some more than others, but it's there. Even Western Jersey! :smug:

My wife would move to around Andy's neck of the non-woods pretty quick. I would not rule out it happening one day after I retire. Who knows.

There is apparently some spectacular diving in the Sea of Cortez. I haven't been there, so I can't say from personal experience. Yet.

It has a three band EQ, a blend knob, and a volume knob. I can't say that I have spent enough time with it to know where any sweet spots are with the sound. It dives like a Stuka! The chip in the poly is getting slowly filled up with more poly, although the way it chipped means that I'll eventually have to sand the original finish flush where it came up. I thought about trying to glue it an clamp it down, but the usual project speed around here meant that it would never happen.

I think it has Fender strings on it. It could use brighter strings to overcome the wool a bit. If I can get the balance to work, and as long as the guitarist likes the way it sounds, I'm OK with it. It's not a Thunderbird, and it sure doesn't sound like a Thunderbird, but it will do for this band. I thought I would hate the flattened out neck, but I'm finding that it works really well with the extra string. My fingers got a little confused by the extra string for a while. It should be easier once the balance is sorted.

I'm fine with 5 strings until I focus on something else. Then I forget and find myself thinking the B is E.
Next I go get a 4 string.

I don't remember what the wires were when I took apart the one I have and converted it to Alumitones. I expect you have two hot wires, one for each coil, and a ground wire. Some of them had four wires, hot and ground for each coil. I would probably do a little experimenting with a multimeter to figure it out.

I don't have a Tbird Pro, but I believe they have passive pickups with a preamp.
You should be able to determine what the 3 wires do with an ohmmeter.
If there's a coil split lead, it will show the same resistance to the other two leads.

worth buying an underwater camera....Rosa pointed at a spotted manta ray that must have had a 5 foot wingspan about 100 feet from shore....truly amazing, had me briefly consider the submersion survival time of an iPhone16 lol.....fact that it was salt water deterred the intention.....

There are cases for cell phones, but I don't have one. Or a camera yet either. Someday after diving skills improve a bit more.

I don't know how big a manta gets, but I was diving in Costa Rica last spring and four or five of them came sailing right through the group I was diving with. Visibility was outstanding, but even so, they seemed to glide out of the gloom and then disappear back into the gloom. They seemed enormous, and the whole effect was completely thrilling. They seemed like the could have easily been 20 feet tip to tip. One of the people I was diving with had a camera and took video of the rays and a curious octopus that played games with us.

I don't think this will ever get old. There's something different in different places. Diving in Puget Sound has a zen quality to it that's really different from tropical water. Since the boy and the girl live in Monterey now, I am hoping to dive there and see what the kelp forests are all about. Recreational divers like me only scratch the surface of what goes on under the water. It's a little like walking around on beaches and thinking that is what there is to know about life on land.

There are reminders of how unforgiving it can be. There was a dead harbor seal on the bottom last Saturday morning, with crabs busy feasting on the carcass.

It had a Lull in it, it went to Barstow ( I know, the horror!) but, it has been sold since and has a different bridge on it now.

Hell yes I remember Wally. 'Pearl' was the first band I ever saw that blew me out of my chair! That dude was the real deal. What a player.

Yep, Wally was my first local influence in the scene... And good one.

Yeah Front Runner came after Pearl, he then went to tour with Yngwie before succumbing to cancer....bummer, heck of a nice guy too...our lead singer's (Ray Nigro) girlfriend eloped with him....

I saw him at the Treehouse Lounge one night, what town was that, Hallandale?... Anyway I went to and told him I'd remembered him from Pearl, and he was pretty surprised I remembered him from ten years prior. He told me about paying with Ingwe, audiences of thousands of people. He had quite the experience.
He'd been producing a metal band called Cryptic Curse when I saw him there. They were quite good, saw them a time or two.
I knew he was sick, my heart went out to him. I'm glad I got to talk with him a bit.
