Thunderbird Club

There's hardly a band or singer/songwriter that one can like 100% of what they do. Saying that, means I can find stuff I like from most everyone who has ever recorded in my preferred genre' of rock'n'roll, be it classic, southern, punk, hard or heavy... soft too. I try not to let their politics sway me but I find myself usually switching off RATM. Eff' those guys.

Hey folks, sorry I didn't mean to start a Neil Young war. In hindsight I should have realized he's a polarizing figure and would cause a fair amount of disagreement. But I just focused on his singing voice - which is intolerable to me (actually his guitar playing is fairly lackluster as well).

His politics along with the politics of the rest of the performing world mean nothing to me as long as long as they don't mix those politics with their art. Once that's done, it's ruined, the music can't be enjoyed for what it is vs what the person behind the voice stands for. It's no longer entertainment, it's a political statement put to music. Not my cup of tea regardless of the political leanings of the "artist" now activist.

I don't turn on the news to listen to music and I sure don't enjoy listening to music that represents an editorial opinion (even if I agree with it). Shut up and sing should be every musical entertainers mantra. Let the news media and political pundits divide us into nice neat little waring factions if you will, but music should transcend all that static and be a healing force bringing us together.

Nuff said, I'm going outside now to burn all my Neil Young and Ted Nugent albums - oh wait, I don't have any, I wonder why?

Absolutely spot on. I don't care for any politics in my music (or any other entertainment with the exception of literature). And just to be clear - I am annoyed by Neil's holier than thou politics, his singing is akin to nails on a chalkboard, but I like his songs. I have gone to see him live. He has an interesting eclectic style in music (and if I recall correctly, he is a huge fan and collector of rare do-wop music).

Just stop trying to tell me what to do!

Goes for Ted Nugent too, but he is a better singer. <- Faint praise...

Well said. And as a Springsteen fan, I do not understand his infatuation with Tom Morello...

Man, all you righty wierdos are lucky with the new epi birds coming, really cool looking. I guess I'm on the loosing side with this one lol. Typical.
I'm with you on that, brother. Let's get a drink and commiserate.

Far be it for me to tell one of you sinister types what to do, but could you get one of the new `Birds, string it upside-down and play it upside-down? The strap button is on the heel of the neck, you may need to move the rear strap button. Perhaps there are other factors I am missing?

You could have a unique looking new `Bird, a left-handed, reverse, reverse `Bird.

Is that an exclusive drinking club? Is there an initiation ritual?

The ritual requires you to lefty...that is of course waived if you bring large bottles of alcohol. Far as flipping, I personally think they look ******** with the reverse headstock, BUT, if the controls were moved and get rid of PG, then it could be a cool reverse. Just need a new nut

Hmmm. I hadn't thought about controls and pickguard. I really didn't put much thought into it.

Big bottle of alcohol? Sure; rubbing is OK, right?

Actually, I have expensive taste in liquor.

I was editing some pictures from shows we did last month. I thought you would like this one ! (I hope that it isn't too large)

Hell I'm down. We can look at pics of basses we can't have
I do that all the time anyway, but yeah, some company would help. And PillO's expensive booze.

That last comment will get you in. :) But yeah, controls.

Neil Young is Canadian by birth, but has not lived in the country since the 60s. Has not renounced his citizenship and continues to accept the benefits and privileges of being a Canadian despite being very clear when he left that if you want to make it in music, you have to leave Canada because it is full of losers. He feels it is his place to tell both Canadians and Americans how they should live their lives. He is a hypocrite of the highest order. His singing is horrible and it makes his songs almost unlistenable. In short, he is a self-absorbed, self-righteous, blow-hard.

But I do like his songs.
Well... I've seen, heard and read many things that contradict your statement, but I'm not Canadian (in fact... with as close as I am, I've regrettably only been there twice). I have the distinct impression that "Canadianity" is a key ingredient to the nature of your issues with him. I am certainly not qualified to debate you in that realm, but Neil Young himself, would aggressively defend your right to have and express that opinion, as will your brothers and sisters in this forum. Above all else... I respect and appreciate your ability to separate the man from his music, and "grade" them on separate scales. It's widely known that Jaco Pastorius was a class "A", card carrying member of the a-hole club, but he is remembered for his music, first.

My favorite band in the late 60's was The Buffalo Springfield. I grew up in the mid-west and everything about them appealed to me. So I've been a Neil Young fan forever. I've never seen/heard him live, but he almost hit me one Saturday morning while on my bicycle (a funny story - luckily!) I don't have all of his albums and don't like all songs/periods he's ever done but do have a number of them including my two favorites, Decade ('77) and Freedom ('89). When Freedom first came out, he was on SNL and rocked "Rockin' In the Free World" hard. It sent shivers up my back. No, Neil is like Miles or Picasso to me - he can do no wrong because his voice comes from his heart & soul -

<RESPECT>

Very good song writing for the folksy type of music he plays and not a bad performer either, he can actually sing and play guitar!
No one has brought up Nickleback or Beeber yet, wonder why?;)

For a moment there I thought you were going to pitch Celine Dion at me
