I like Neil Youmg, I love Crazy Horse. I don't know him personally, don't really know his politics, don't have any intimate knowledge of him. Sometimes I don't dig his singing, sometimes I think his guitar playing is ridiculous, although I have to say that somehow it works. Like any artist, there are disconnects from what we think of as needful: technique, integrity, a popular idea of sonority or musicianship. But the point is to transcend everything, and when you do it, you're an artist.
HAH!!! A number of years ago, I saw an interview in which David Crosby spoke at length about Neil Young's, singing, song writing, and how powerful it was to watch him perform when he would sit down with nothing but an acoustic guitar, a microphone, & a harmonica strapped around his neck. When the conversation rolled around to his electric guitar playing... Mr. Crosby chuckled and said, "There is nothing like being on stage with Neil Young when he's playing the electric guitar. He's off in his own world... having a seizure".:roflmao:

Very good song writing for the folksy type of music he plays and not a bad performer either, he can actually sing and play guitar!
No one has brought up Nickleback or Beeber yet, wonder why?;)
Funny you should mention those two. I just heard that Chili's laid out $10.2 mil for each of them to appear in their latest ad campaign for "BieberBack Ribs"!;)

I've heard Beiber and Miley Cryus are actually one in the same, notice you never see the two of them on stage at the same time. Here's a spliced pic to prove they're both the same person...

You're right about him being an acquired taste. I get why our friend Gbass doesn't like him.

I completely respect the opinions of those who don't get him. As a teen, I got a ton of s**t from friends a about my musical taste. But they were and still are friends. My favs, in no particular order as listening always depended on my mood, were: Neil, with and without Buffalo, CSNY and the Horse; Yes; Genesis; Bowie; Wishbone Ash; Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac (all iterations) and The Beatles. In our bands, the two songs I was allowed to try and sing were Alabama and Down by the River. I was pretty awful. But as our guitarist/singer liked to say, so was Neil.

As for what I believe are Neil's top albums: Everbody Knows This is Nowhere, After the Goldrush, Zuma, Rust Never Sleeps, Ragged Glory, and Living with War. But there are so many great songs scattered among his albums with groups and as a solo artist from '66 to now, that I own them all. And to this day I still go on Neil binges. The worst thing he ever put out was ARC. A disc of feedback. Not recommended.

Neil's bassists were primarily Talbot, Rick Rosas (RIP) and Tim Drummond (also RIP). All three are among my influences.

Neil is hands down the greatest Canadian songwriter who ever lived. In my book, he's up there with Dylan and the Boss.

I've seen him live so many times that I have no clue as to how many shows I've seen. The most memorable were two consecutive nights at The Forum on the Rust tour. I think it was October of '78. Neil's house in Zuma had just burned down. But there he was, putting on great shows. Half acoustic, and half with the Horse. These are third on my list of best concerts I've been to. The second halves were so loud that I'm sure they contributed to the tinnitus I have now. But man, the Horse was on those two nights.

Yep, I'm a fan.
The thing that made "Arc"... "valid" I suppose... is that it was released as disc 2 of "Weld". I woulda been less than thrilled if I hadda actually paid 10 - 20bux for it as a stand alone disc!

I can't pick a favorite Neil Young album. Like y'all say about your 'birds... "the best one, is the one I'm playing right now"!

Being a life long fan, I'm sure you do, but I gotta ask... do you have Crazy Horse's album, "Scratchy"? If not... you neeeeeed it!

I'm just going to sit back and not say a word about favorite bands, musical tastes and the likes of.
I will surely be kicked out, besides I've got a super bad cold, sinuses running amauck.
Blah, blah.
Maybe a scotch could help?

Oh yeah, liquor is just what a cold wants, start drinking heavily stat!

Yeah. What's the old adage... "Starve a fever, drink a cold"? Yeah... that sounds right;)

Was in a band with 2 guitars, drums and a singer. One of the guitarists was hopeless, he spent all his time listening to Santana and John McLaughlin and could play lead lines but couldn't hold down a rhythm to save himself. He was ousted in a bloodless coup and the singer became the second guitarist - kept the singer out of trouble and instantly made us 100% better (as well as no more hippy guitaring - maybe that's 300%).

These days I'm more inclined to a 3 piece althought that requres either a guitarist who sings or a drummer (but some people have problems with the aesthetic of a singing drummer).

Yeah... It didn't really work out for Genesis with a singing drummer...:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

Eeerrrrmmmmmm.......................

Greatest Canadian songwriter is Gordon Lightfoot.

I have heard about 2 lifetimes worth of that Edmund Fitzgerald song. I could do without ever hearing it again.

Per capita, Canada produces no greater number of terrible performers than any other country. It is just that Canadian Content rules require us to hear it.

I like Nickleback... there, I've said it. :bag:

Admitting that you have a problem is the first step...
