I remember that. Interesting story. Dude should have taken the instant cash IMO. No cost to selling it for him. People go into pawn shops (especially that one), thinking they will get what it's valued at or what it will in turn sell for. That seems to have ahppened about every episode I ever saw. Pawn shops like any store are there to make money and it takes money to make money and when buying something, take on all the risk. Especially if you have to nail down the provenance and take something to auction and give them their significant cut. Tying up over half a mill not knowing when it will sell would have to be considered from a business stand point and what even possible to pay I would think.
Millions--plural--seemed too high. (I think the one he played at woodstock did sell for 2 mill. But a historic event greatly added to the value there and had film of him playing it. Several important factors going on there. Around a mill or some over I thought. Even then it all depends on the state of things and who at that moment has the money and has to have it. I later remember reading somewhere it was listed later for $1.2. True? Who knows. And who knows what it actually sold for even if true. The article mentioned another early 60s Strat owned by Jimi Hendrix that sold for $325,000 at auction.
But don't know if he ever played it. I think one of many he owned.
Then there is this. Maurice Gibb’s Sat Night Fever bass. Letter from Maurice stating all Bee Gee songs on SNFever were recorded on this bass, and it is autographed by all 3 Bee Gees.
It’s from a year ago, I wonder how much it went for? If it sold at all.

As I approach my 74th trip around Sol this year, I realize I can now decide on a few things, also the only group I respect enough to share/solicit opinions are my friends here on the Thunderbird group.

For those of you with enough Sol cycles to decide (I'll probably not buy another bass).

What is your favorite bass? Mine is my 2014 Thunderbird.

What is you're best bass (if not the same)? Mine is my SJ5XXX (easily the best playing bass I've ever owned/played)

And finally what is your favorite song? As an avowed Beatles fan, I thought it would be one of their's, but upon reflection, shockingly mine is McArthur Park (I know, I know, many hate it). But it touches a chord within me, and also takes me back 50 years to a time and place.

Thanks for any sharing, and no ties please. Choose 1 of each. Happy New Years!
Probably both honors go to my 2013 Gibson Thunderbird. But my Carvin LB20 is a close second. Can't say I have one favorite song, but if I had to pick one, probably 1952 Vincent Black Lightning by Richard Thompson.

First, congratulations on almost 74! Are you going to remake the beatles song into "When I'm 74"?

My favorite bass is V's 1964 Thunderbird II. At least, among basses I've played.
Oh, you mean of mine? Ugh. That varies based on day, mood, and the music I'm playing. Today, I have to go with Nikki, my 1988 Greco IV:

Some play better, some sound better. Roger (2023 Epi 64 IV) is not quite best at either, but perhaps the best overall:

My favorite song changes constantly. But if I had to, right now, pick one song as the only song I could ever again listen to, it would have to be Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd. It was life changing. Despite the radio "overplay", I still listen to this song (and the album) regularly. I still practice to it. I can hit every note Leon (or Ed on the studio version) plays - just not necessarily when and/or as they hit them.

Marshall, @MCF

I recommend the new Paul Kelly album “Seventy”. It’s really good.

I had listened to it via Spotify, and so I asked Santa to bring me the CD. 😊
I played it through my Denon -> Denon amp -> MS5 speakers. Really enjoyed it played the “old fashioned way”.
It’s great! I’ll be ordering it in vinyl pretty soon. Hard to believe he’s seventy and that this is album number 30! Australia’s poet laureate.

I had to come down from the mountain where we’ve been spending the holidays for doctor appointments tomorrow. I’ll be setting up the new receiver the wife and kids got me tomorrow; I wanted to go Denon, but couldn’t justify the price. Ended up with Onkyo which should be fine.

Speaking of vinyl, Christmas present from one of my friends.
