Thunderbird Club

Yet... a giant Mohawk or a Robocop outfit? Lol

And I've also heard that he doesn't think the singer should be the center of attention of a band, which is fair enough for a band like that, it's really about the music as a whole.

And the guitarist and Chancellor never moved from their spots.

Didn't matter though, they truly are an experience more than a "band". Will go down as one of my favorite concerts.
Well not the Mohawk sh*t but being behind the drums

Hey how can I get my bird to sound like a grand piano? I thought a member said he/she got their bird to sound like one

It's Big Angry Piano :D

On your amp: Bass@11:000, Lo Mid@1:30, Hi Mid@1:00, Treble @12:00. DR Stainless and a Tortex .73 pick.

I'm just going to sit back and not say a word about favorite bands, musical tastes and the likes of.
I will surely be kicked out, besides I've got a super bad cold, sinuses running amauck.
Blah, blah.
Maybe a scotch could help?
You wanna bust up those sinuses? Put that Scotch in the microwave for just a few seconds (seriously... that stuff heats up QUICK!), then between sips, just hold it under your nose & inhale the vapor. It's a little sup'm I call "making the best of a lousy situation".
Get better fast man!

I see. And where would one acquire a thunderbucker..?
From their website.

THOSE ARE EXPENSIVE
Well, yes, they are. Mine are used.

There's hardly a band or singer/songwriter that one can like 100% of what they do. Saying that, means I can find stuff I like from most everyone who has ever recorded in my preferred genre' of rock'n'roll, be it classic, souther, punk, hard or heavy... soft too. I try not to let their politics sway me but I find myself usually switching off RATM. Eff' those guys.
I like RATM quite a bit. I also like that their bassist, in an interview, apologized for having inspired Limp Bizkit.

I say I like metal, but I hate 90% of everything.

I like Nickleback... there, I've said it. :bag:
That's fine. Never understood the hate. Not a fan, personally, but I don't get the intense hatred when bands like Crazy Town exist.

Well... I've seen, heard and read many things that contradict your statement, but I'm not Canadian (in fact... with as close as I am, I've regrettably only been there twice). I have the distinct impression that "Canadianity" is a key ingredient to the nature of your issues with him. I am certainly not qualified to debate you in that realm, but Neil Young himself, would aggressively defend your right to have and express that opinion, as will your brothers and sisters in this forum. Above all else... I respect and appreciate your ability to separate the man from his music, and "grade" them on separate scales. It's widely known that Jaco Pastorius was a class "A", card carrying member of the a-hole club, but he is remembered for his music, first.
I'd honestly rather listen to Neil Young than Jaco Pastorius. Jaco was obviously very good at the instrument, but his music bores me.

or Dijon, Either way it leaves an undesirable effect.
But dijon mustard is delicious.

I agree whole heartedly with your remarks about politics in music... as well as TV, movies, and really any form of entertainment. It's entertainment! It's intended to give you a place to go, to take your mind OFF of all that s#!t. Nowdays, we get hammered with it everywhere all the time. TBH... I've been disheartened by the increasing frequency with which it's been seeping into our little safe-haven right here. Even seemingly insignificant little one liners & stuff, just kinda wreck it. It's a "poisoning of the well". Feel free to take this with a grain of salt... but if you wanna fight about politics... go to FaceBook. This forum is a rose in a field of weeds. Don't let the weeds grow here... please...

<edit>

@Count Bassie , with eloquence and style, made me re-think my position regarding the "politics in music" portion of my posting. I suppose it's so obvious that I overlooked it...everyone does indeed have the right to say (or sing) whatever they want... and we, as listeners, have the ability and right to choose not to listen if we don't like what we're hearing. It's as simple as that. (feelin' kinda stupid right now...)
**** escapism.

My bands don't write music to be "entertainment" or easy listening, or to get people's minds off of the world. It is certainly not intended that way.

I don't much care for the idea that art should remain silent and detached from the real world.

Then again perhaps that's why I hate 80s butt rock and generally detest music about partying and so forth. I don't want escapism, or a distraction, and that's all that is, from my perspective.

Funny thing is that I play in a band that covers a whole lot of Beatles songs. I'm not much of a Beatles fan these days for that reason, if no other. I'm so tired of playing those songs that I can hardly see straight. I like the other guys, though, so that makes it alright. Paul was a very set bass player. I think that's why I don't like that music so much. He started to improvise just a little on Don't Let Me Down, which makes it my favorite Beatles song to play. The rest are all about the set riff. That's fine for a while. Then it's boring.

I always play the Thunderbird in that band. If anybody objects to a Thunderbird in any situation, then that person is just misguided. Nobody in any audience seems to have ever noticed that Paul didn't play a Thunderbird.
I actually don't care that much for improvisation. That's not to say that I dislike it, but it doesn't really add anything for me.

Artificial is good. It's all about the polyester.
Ugh, polyester is super uncomfortable.

@GBassNorth - we'll call this 'cultural criticism' [cough]

It might be possible to separate art from politics if art was like pine cones you found just lying around on the forest floor.

Art is made by human beings however, and comes from lived experience and social being. As the Old Man said 'you may not be interested in the dialectic, but the dialectic is interested in you'.

We now return you to your advertised program...
Exactly. No artists can be truly separated from the time and place they lived or live in.

Also, awesome quote.

You bring forth a valid point. I suppose you're right. The best songs are one's that were written out of personal thoughts, feelings, and experiences. It's fairly easy to see how politics would get wrapped up in there. I suppose the line that shouldn't be crossed, is the one where you stop expressing yourself, and start telling others how they should live, or that they are "wrong".
Also politics really does affect people's lives personally. Why wouldn't it find its way into lyrics?

And sometimes people do need to be told that they're wrong if they're harming other people.

But we have opinions. Also freedom of expression does not walk with Apology. Your freedom is to disagree.
When you just want to groove, have a good time, duck out from the fray you may not want to grind down your ears with someone's passion for a cause. So you change the channel...
Indeed. I mean, yeah, it makes stuff less accessible, I guess, but gods, kill me if my musical endeavors are ever reduced to songs about drinking and having a good time.

Doesn't matter, indeed. They have a presence to them that makes it somehow exciting even though they hardly move.

Bird sighting alert! Justin Chancellor of Tool, the first year he was with them.
Hard to see but definitely a bird.

Just saw Tool live last week. Absolutely sound spectacular live. Like ridiculously good.
But this video makes me laugh seeing Maynard at the front of the stage. These days he has a riser beside the drums with no lights on him, and the last time I saw them, he faced the back of the stage, though he had a giant mohawk, this time he faced forward, wearing like a robocop outfit... again, in the dark.
He is definitely a paradox.

From what I understand it's the same thing as they're music videos, they don't want their personalities to effect your "musical experience" I guess.

Having absolutely no prior knowledge about Tool - Which albums would be a recommended starting point?

Hey guys! Another TB owner here.
I guessed this is the right spot to post my question... Sorry if not.

What are Thunderbird factory tunings?

Google and this site's search isn't much of help. I am sure others are interested too.
I received my Epiphone TB goth tuned very nicely to a low setting. Beautiful harmony. But lately i jammed with a friend and i tuned to his guitar. Now think i did manage to back to as things were, but this morning i am somewhat unsure.

Thank you for any help!

Standard tuning of E-A-D-B. They might stretch due to heat from storage and, if not set up before shipped, might show up a half tone or so lower. As you did correctly, the band should always be in tune. Easiest for me is to have everyone tune to a 440 tuning, but if you don't have tuners handy (smartphones have tuners) then make sure you are tuned to each other.

If I'm understanding the question, it should be EADG just like majority of basses. But what you tune to is up to you. Drop D is common DADG, or even strung with a B string and tuned to BEAD.

You can tube it any way you want, it depends on the player. Common tuning is E A D G, though drop D and drop C isn't uncommon either. It's whatever you want, man
