Thunderbird Club

It's a Schaller 3D with the Hammer stamp on it. These are great totally adjustable well designed bridges, again, first made in the early 80's and still around today.

Hah! (Nocturnal) great minds think alike. :)
+1 on the Schaller bridge with roller saddles. Mine's got a Hamer logo too. Good machine.

The.mind, well this one's got a few dings, a crack or two...

I think you guys might like this. My favorite was the 64 Tbird, but I might be biased. (thought seriously almost every other bass sounds dull, muddy or thin)

An awesome assembly of axes - cool vid, and even cooler socks!

More or less agree. Still have a soft spot for the sound of a Ric and the first two FSOs sounded okay [gasp]. The Ripper demonstrated the qualities which prevented me from bonding with the one I had briefly in the 80s.
Yep on the 53 P. I grew a soft spot for the EB1 (my head?) and the Bass VI and Longhorn were surprising.
Outside of the TBird, and basically all the Gibsons I guess the Rickenbacker.

Here it is. Like I said, its short. 6 original songs and 1 Kyuss cover that I thought was really cool (features 2 basses btw). I think its enough for you to decide whether you like them or not and if you do just check out the albums from your favorite songs. And, if you care, my 2 personal favorites from that playlist are Rosetta Stoned and Lateralus

Will check it out, thanks... :)

Seeing as we were talking about the Heartbreakers the other day, via Reverb.com, Mike Campbell is auctioning 4 x Duesenberg guitars for the dog charity he's involved in. If you know any cashed-up dog-lovin' lawyers (band name there), let them know.

There are only one "Heartbreakers" : Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers...

There, I said it.... :)

I love when you spend 2k on a bass and only play it for a few hours...
It is baffling to me, but there is plenty of that out there. The seller put fancy strap locks and got a fancy strap for it, too. There must be a story behind that. I am happy with what I have for the time being (oh, the horror). But I sure would love to know the story behind that purchase and now sale. Or not. Imagination may be far better than reality.

The story is probably quite mundane, however the fiction I came up with involves seeing Motley Crue with his girlfriend. After he bought the bass, he realized that he couldn't tell his wife why he bought it and so hid it. Now that he is getting divorced (because his wife found him sleeping with a different girlfriend) he needs to dispose of the hidden assets that won't fit in a safety deposit box.

The reality is one of these scenarios (In my mind anyway...)

1. Currently plays and Ibanez 5 string in a nu-metal cover band. Wanted the bird for "metal street cred" and can't adapt to the "weirdness" of it and can't figure out the standard tuning.....

2. Is a dentist that loved Van Helen & Crue "back in the day" and "always wanted to play bass" because he thought it was easier than guitar. He has now realized his fingers are sore after only a couple of hours and has determined that bass playing is indeed "boring".

3. Is a Certified Financial Planner who thought Gibson was going under, due to the huge debt load they carry. He was convinced that this bass was bound to appreciate by 2000%.

He has since read the article on the "Death of the Electric Guitar" and realized that Henry J is a stone cold marketing genius (along the lines of Bezos & Jobs). Realizes now that the Gibson lifestyle brand will be wildly successful selling a line of adult themed "toys" with names like "Thunderbird: For Her" along with AAA flame top, Les Paul condoms. Has decided to cut his losses and get out of this investment before he loses anymore money.

The dentist wanna be musician/collector.
Doesn't he realize there's more money in being a dentist?

Possible. Maybe he thought he would be able to trade it for a 5 string `bird when they came out.

Dentists are the accordion players of the medical world. Sure they are around, and sometimes you need one, but who really wants to hang out with an accordion player. If a dentist were trying to be in a band, he/she would play keyboards and claim that Jump was the epitome of Van Halen's creativity. He/she would also get a 'keytar'.

Just not possible. CFPs can't see the potential in anything but an equity index fund properly balanced with a bond fund and whole life insurance.

I finally listened to that whole thing. The 'Bird is very different, as are the Dano and Ric. The Dano sounded a little harsh to me. Precision FSOs sound like Precisions. I don't like the sound of a J, and this didn't change my mind at all. Of all of them, it comes down to the 'Bird and the Ric. No surprises. The '64 sounds a lot like I think the '01 sounds. Without plugging into the same amp, there's no way to know for sure, but that smooth, powerful aggression is what the '01 does best. The distracting dancer up front doesn't know the difference, but I do, so why not enjoy both sight and sound?

The Ric was, actually, my favorite. It retained its body throughout dynamic hoop-jumping, bends, register changes, etc better than any of them, in my stultified opinion.

The Bird was very consistent throughout as well. Aggressive, yes.

I liked the EB-3 played with a pick. Also the Dano, but the EB-3 owned it.
Gotta admit, the 1st Precision was nice with the funk. Very clean, obnoxiously transparent. Good for recording for that reason.

I don't think I like the rest though. With all that gain stage the EB-1 didn't have a chance- overdrive city. Too bad... John Paul-Jones played one on Led Zeppelin III and it sounded much better than this rendition.

I think they got a touch of "Studio Handitis" for this production. Next time just plug 'em in to the amp and mic it to the board. A little post-compression, be done with it.
