Thunderbird Club

I love when you spend 2k on a bass and only play it for a few hours...
Actually, GC blew some of them out for $1099.00 during the late summer/early fall of 2015. I played one with that finish and one with the burst finish when I bought the 2015 for $999.00. Problem with the one I played like that one was the inserts were pulling up. That's part of why I ended up with the '15 with the Babicz bridge. Couldn't be happier.

A band called Goodby June...Athens, GA...6/23...

Finally got to plug in to my heads, into the Peavey Pro 810 cab. With the Hamer Mutant bass ('83 Cruisebass, chopped), the Blackbird is off getting its bridge p'up reinstalled (I need my balance after all, so sad...).
Anyway I've been away from having music as a regular part of my life of late, too much "home life"! Including my 16 year old daughter getting bit by our neighbor's pit bull (she's ok, too much story to relate, but the offending biter is gone. It sucked...). Today I had a chance to plug in, tweak, and muse...

I am reawakened to the happy functionality of my Crate BT-350 head. You want to run it at 4 ohms, and you have to use the Master Vol and dime the "Tube Gain", but when you do, that old can delivers with teeth and sonic heft. I like that old bargain box. That's my rock head.

I played a reggae gig last night with my Trace AH300, and had quite a time getting my sound, finally got it together before the first set. Today I dialed er in for real. It's a monster. Best I could do yesterday was tone down some low-mid honk, today she's home.

Bird comes home this week. I love getting my music thing together. I like my amps. Tweaking my basses in is next...

People, brute ignorance and death-dogs eh?

So, I'm looking at auditions. Everyone wants a music or vid sample now and I get it, problem is that I wasn't in a band for 20 years, so don't have much.
I have an old song from 86 that a buddy of mine uploaded onto YouTube. But it's a 16 track recording from 30 years ago. Got audition offers from some but many didn't.

So, my last band had a CD released after I got in a fight with the guitar player and my gear was thrown on my front lawn while on a date. They have two songs on YouTube. Both were songs we did when I was in the band, playing out and doing demos. They were nothing well known and they were on a minor independent label

I found an app that lets you download the music from songs on YouTube, at least some of them. Those two were, so I downloaded them and changed the band name to the one I was in after these guys kicked me out. I have sent it to 7 ads and 5 want me to audition.

Was it wrong what I did? Or does the end justify the means?

Well, renaming the band... debatable, in that it's kind of funny, if you can just not take this kind of thing seriously-which I highly recommend! Also it doesn't sound like they have anything turned on with it.

Could be seen as sketchy though. Did you give it a funny name? :woot:

Did you perform on the demos? If so, then it's fine, but no need to change the name of the band.
If you didn't perform on them, then yeah, it seems kinda wrong.

Man, I miss the days of just showing up w your bass and auditioning.

Me too. Now you have to be a low-level agent. It's beyond my pay grade, frankly.

I played on demos. Played them live. All the other guy did was learn the songs and played on CD. I changed the name because I'm a vindictive SOB and very passive agressive to people who screw me over. It's been 25 years and still despise the guitar player.

I also decided that I am going to get around any obstacle that prevents me from getting into a room and playing. If it's not the right fit or someone is better, than that is fine. Just don't want bull crap stopping me from my goals.

"By any means necessary."

Fair enough!

As long as your honest about the stuff that matters it should be ok.

Changing the name of the band is kind of a non issue if it keeps you happy. However, if it wasn't you playing on the recording submitted (regardless of how accomplished you are) then you'll have to live with that misreprentation on your conscience. If you can sleep at night then all is well, but personally I'd feel a bit guilty about it.

Keeping it all relative may be the ticket here. If you're joining a band as a recreational hobby and making a pittance at it I wouldn't sweat the details. But if this is a professional job for you and could lead to something big I'd be playing it straight up vs fudging the picture. Just me. You do what you think is right.

My thoughts would be to let go of the crap with old band and use real name of band if it is you playing with them. These current acts are looking to hire you - not former bandmates.

My concern would be if any of these bands happen to Google songs and/or the other band name you use here. They don't know you from Adam and you are starting your working relationship with them by what some might feel is dishonesty. It would stink if baggage from the old band somehow got in the way of what could be a good gig for you in the here and now. I am not judging you here as I get how your experience with old band was nasty. Just offering another perspective - food for thought. And I could be overthinking this as I am prone to do.

Either way, you should feel good that you are getting all of these auditions, after being out of the game for a while. Kudos to you!

Tried to upload something I played onto Soundcloud, changed the names to protect the innocent and it flagged an immediate copyright violation. But I wrote the friggin bassline! apparently doesn't apply.

Out of the blue the other week one of my former bandmates tried to 'friend' me on Linked-in, as if I don't hate his fvckn guts. Maybe he was making a list of people who have not seen or spoken to him in 30years and wouldn't piss on him.
