I just play it with all the extra goodies turned off. Flat EQ is 10/2/2/10 but I turn the bass down to 8-9. I don't play it a lot as I have the B15 in the house. The Rumble was there in case we have a gig that doesn't have FOH and monitors. So, I haven't spent a lot of time trying to dial it in.The combo? Have you played it with the bright switch on, and the contour and vintage switches off? I almost bought one of those years ago. That was the only way it sounded good to me. YMMV.
The Ross looks cool - where is it made?Testify.
M' bird. Still the all-around best of whatever else I've ever got in the quiver: ergonomics, clarity, ease of play... suits every context I play in. It's got a voice that stands up in a mix like a 400 year-old tree in healthy forest. I've been trying to displace it (it's what I do- I test everything, eventually, to its limit- I'm in therapy), I can't do it.
Best machine ever.
Maybe a Gibson would make it take a second seat, but I don't know, and it's no issue. I don't covet one. This is good medicine for Headstock Coveting Syndrome.
It rises to the surface every time.

This takes nothing from the other two here, really liking the Sterling 34ca. But the Classic Pro outshines, is my #1.
Interestingly I have just been ruminating on that topic, specifically computer generated instrumental-only music. There are hundreds of "ambient" music sites on YouTube. Just type in "study music" or "concentration music" and they will come up. I played some when visiting George last weekend - 'background music'. It can vary from targeted frequency droning to melodic 'song-scapes'. I've found a few that I play when reading, writing or working on something.remember Blade Runner?.....music may be the way we distinguish humans from AI replicants..... interesting times....I know it's a little out there but....
Too bad she was a replicant...Mrs. Young was great in that movie.
That would do the trick…A Lull fiver.
An old thread by our tb friend shadven - as much as it was the 1st bass amp I lusted after as a 13yr old after seeing/hearing one played live at our High School dance - I've never owned one. Couldn't afford one then, and have no need for one now. Still love its sonic & iconic visual presence.funny....
So I was offered a good deal on a nice vintage Acoustic 360/361 ($1200, but I can probably get it for a grand).
I definitely have the vintage collector gene and it's hard to pass up an iconic rig. I often gig with larger cabs (SVT or V4B w/ 810) whenever I can, but I've never played through one of these before.
I play old Fender P-basses and Telecaster basses, so I think the Acoustic is a classic combo. But, I love my tubes and my Ampegs.
What can I expect from the 18" folded horn and a solid state pre-amp /amp? I do love my V4B 2x15 folded horn can.
Thanks

Pretty much. Except I had the 360 and it was yellow with black accent stripes. Fun car, but not fast by today’s standards. Probably around 7 seconds to 60 and a 15 second quarter mile IIRC.Great pic/story, please tell me it wasn't one of these....

It does. Roge can certainly tell us more. But the builder is Dave Ross in Rhode Island! The Ross looks cool - where is it made?
beauty, manual?Pretty much. Except I had the 360 and it was yellow with black accent stripes. Fun car, but not fast by today’s standards. Probably around 7 seconds to 60 and a 15 second quarter mile IIRC.
Auto unfortunately. Had it been a manual I would have got it in the divorce, the witch couldn’t shift.beauty, manual?
this one even has the preamp cover....An old thread by our tb friend shadven - as much as it was the 1st bass amp I lusted after as a 13yr old after seeing/hearing one played live at our High School dance - I've never owned one. yeah, but this is cooler (imho).... wish I liked the sound of tubes more......Those came in with transistors. Pretty much only tubes were considered "user serviceable".
EDIT: I thought you meant the "No user serviceable parts inside" label. The loudness warning was definitely not common. And it's too cool.

Nice! I see my Spyder lurking on the Ashdown stack...
Are these (NOS Mullard ultra low noise twin triode) available? EDIT: see my PM sent...yeah, but this is cooler (imho).... wish I liked the sound of tubes more......
not convinced with TE's method of securing the output tubes......too bad...

on the other hand, someone (could be factory) had the good sense/taste to place a very desirable NOS Mullard ultra low noise twin triode at the input...

Weren’t the old Mullards made in UK?yeah, but this is cooler (imho).... wish I liked the sound of tubes more......

He takes good care of his gear. His Bicentennial was what really gave me the bug to get serious about finding one.
The 360 is a absolutely magical rig, I was blown away when I got one. Please plug your '64 II into the 360 and turn it up some - we need a demo!
wish it was that straightforward..., as with semiconductors, there's a front end (structure in a tube, die in a chip) and a back end (glass or metal in a tube, plastic in an IC) which is referred to packaging....these can be interchangeable and I believe the structure on the front end Mullard may be NOS (made in GB as you pointed out) as proved by the tightness of the (twin) triode tolerances...Weren’t the old Mullards made in UK?
The new Mullards are from Russia (New Sensor Corp”
“New Sensor:
We are a dealer for New Sensor, an American company with a factory in Saratov, Russia. At this factory, they manufacture TungSol, Gold Lion, Mullard, Svetlana, Electro-Harmonix, and Sovtek tubes.
New Sensor owns and trademarks these brands in the US. They have put these brands on tubes made outside of Russia on rare occasions, but all current production TungSol tubes we receive from New Sensor are made at the aforementioned Xpo-Pol factory in Saratov.
We buy directly from New Sensor in bulk quantity and then test, screen, and select the tubes ourselves.
For power tubes, the manufacturer burn-in the tubes before we receive them. We burn them in further on our custom rig to weed out any early failures, then test and select the tubes on our testers to make matching sets. We use a number of different testers, from classic Hicock testers to modern digital tube testers. For power tubes, we test the tubes under actual voltages that are seen in amps.”
