Thunderbird Club

Man I love Roxy Music bass parts- unique and well mixed, Bryan Ferry probably had a fair hand in that because it continued into his solo career-

Someone mentioned alternate versions of 60's classics?

One from Avalon-

From Bryan Ferry's Boys and Girls album-

Yup...and aside from Love is the Drug...

Update:
I went ahead and accepted the March 7th big band booking. Since there's a distinct possibility it'll be my last gig, I'm thinking of doing a "Who" thing at the end.

not really
Oh the irony i- "Hope I die before I get old ..." Actually I take that back- I wouldn't lay irony on. you my friend. Better to say, what Max Von Sydow's King Ozric says at 1:56- 2:20 ...

"Out of the Blue" remind of the first time I saw this on a VHS rented from a store in St. George, Bermuda the summer of 1986- the full concert in Freyjas, France recorded in 1982. I believe it was called "The High Road". A fun watch and listen - unfortunately there are only individual clips on YouTube-

Here's one - "Can't Let Go" actually a Ferry solo project, a favorite of mine-

This triggered a cool memory I have regarding the bass line in this song- Again I was in Bernuda at a friend's studio around 1987-1988 rehearsing original and cover songs and "Under the Boardwalk" was one of them. And I remember marveling at the parts played by a guest bassist, a kind, wizened black man with an old Jazz bass. But he was ad libbing the bass comping of the vocal chorus which is pretty sparse in the original recording. In his case he was tastefully extending and counterpointing the melody of the vocals-

And I thought, as a guitarist at the time- what a cool, mystical realm of which I have no clue, the sonic realm of the bass guitar! It has been etched in my psyche these past 40 years-

Another cool fact is that on breaks he hung his bass on a Hamilton stand where the bass securely hung by the neck similar to current Hercules stands, which I promptly bought and kept until the rubber padding dry rotted sometime after I moved back to the states-

We had to help our little girl Clover through the veil last night. Sudden onset of complications from kidney stones. Tried everything within reason but she was born with messed up kidneys. Nearly lost her about 3 years ago but a family friend vet pulled off a hail mary surgery for her. She was right as rain up til last thursday.
Hurting bad over it. She was not quite 11.
Never long enough.
She was last in an overlapping line of furry people to share our lives.
The missus and I are catless for the first time since before we married. Might be so for a while.
Farewell, my morning greeter and naptime buddy.

I grew up with the Radio Free Europe ads for the Drifters “On Broadway.”

I understand, lost my sweetheart Latifa about 3 weeks ago - I'm still crying, I miss her so much.

All the talk about Skynyrd reminded of this cool song which I always thought was from a Southern band because it has that Outlaws feel with it's twin guitar harmony -

Found out they were from Canada which reminded me of Evan Sheeley who toured with them when he was in TKO. And then I found this video of him playing a Thunderbird though footage is sparse-

You are right about having something of The Outlaws vibe to it. Never thought about it until to mentioned and I listened.

I'm so sorry to hear that and feel badly for you. Such a beautiful cat she was. Hurting at losing pets is so real that non-pet people and even some pet people don't get it. They are every bit family, and generally less taxing than most family. Many of us are pet people and truly hurt along with you. I'm happy that she likely had a better home and more love than she ever could have imagined.
Went through that a just few years ago with our last dog, and it's still hard to believe. This is the longest I have gone in my life without a pet. But just don't think I can or want to go through the bad parts again. Do I want one? Yes always will.

Oh my, I'm so sorry to hear this. She was kind of like family here as well. I certainly feel for what you and Frank are going through. I'm certain she had the best life possible and no additional love or affection could have been given to her. I'm glad all of you had each other for a season and shared life together.

Very sorry to hear, I know I’ll be a disaster when we lose Attila. Hopefully at least 10 years away (he’s not quite 7 yet.

Again, so sorry to hear this. I hope at least it wasn’t a sudden shock. I think if you kinda know it’s time, maybe, it’s a touch easier to handle. Or not.

I make the joke that I am already mad at Attila because I know he’s going to break us…

Myself wish to offer my condolences and have to say that after a point I've gone without pets as well- just no longer have room for the pain of loss-

But sometimes nature smiles on me and I'll get the occasional volunteer companion- once a peregrine falcon that used to perch on the mainmast, an egret who adopted my dinghy doc, and this Louisiana Heron that once climbed on deck and peeked into my window as if to say -

"What are you doing in there? Don't you know the fish are out here!"

There was a curious Egret but it never climbed on deck, preferingr the finger piers and my dinghy dock where the better fishing action was-
