Who are trying to vaporize?
not me, Erik's new purchase, sold mine years ago...never tried that 4 x 10" (only the 2 x 10") box but always wanted to....
I have tried a couple Bongos. I’ve gotten used to the looks. I like the ergos; pretty comfortable for my frame.
Feels like a short scale compared to a VP.
Mine is one of my heavier basses. It’s ok. I paid $200 or $210 for it. I don’t think it was played much. The owner had something like eighty basses and passed away rather suddenly.Actually now that I think about I have played a first generation SUB. Flat textured black IIRC. A bandmate had one.
I can't remember if it was heavy. That wasn't a concern for me 25 years ago

I like the EB fiver with the DeColas. It’s light, spacing is comfortable, it sounds great with lots of versatility, and it has a Babicz. There aren’t many songs that I work on that needs the B, but it’s nice to have when I want it. I’ll admit though that it’s mostly a thumb rest when playing the E. If I somehow have money find me, I’ll get the Thunderbird Studio 5 or a Lull Thunderbird. But frankly, there’s no reason to with the DeColas. It certainly sounds like a Thunderbird in full untapped humbucker mode.
Not really. My Ibby AGB200 is pretty hardy. I don't think it would do well with the Who, though.Thx GEO!more of a heads up to Jeff on the Hipshot he gave me working properly.... I own a couple of 5 stringers that only leave the house for recording....I think I gig my fretless more than the fivers.....never owned a hollow body.....scared to brake one as they seem more frail than solidbodies.....ymmv of course...,
This is going to sound a bit sacrilegious, but I really like the mods on that vintage bird. I’m a huge Alembic fan and love most of their stuff.
BUT, Truth be told, none of the claimed Alembic parts on that bass are actually Alembic parts. They are brass versions kind of in the same vein as Alembic would do, but that bridge and hard tail and the control knobs and cavity cover and the tree of life inlay aren’t even close to Alembic designs other than being brass.
At one point I considered doing an an Alembic bird in a series one configuration (two pickups and a dummy coil) but the cost was completely prohibitive (well north of $5000 for just the Alembic electronic parts, not including any bridge, nut, tuners, neck or inlay or body). IIRC I calculated my cost at somewhere around $8000 for the finished bass that I might be able to sell for half that price at best.
I still might try building an Alembic bird but I’d have to be really creative on sourcing or fabricating the parts needed to do it justice.
Know know what it's called, but feels like modern pbass neck but does have a little older feel to it. A D shape I guess. I never keep those straight.

Wow. Interesting. I would like to play it. I’m Alembic curious after recently reading the Wall of Sound book and doing a deep dive into Phil and his constant quest for tone. But 10K is way out of what I can spend on a bass.

They make great basses. I don’t understand it. I guess that’s what we get in the era of KKR ownership. It sucks. I’ll stop before I get banned.
