I have a Heritage Cherry 120 Anniversary that I did that exact thing to:

The tuners hadn’t been changed for this pic, but otherwise it’s the cherry version of what you described you was to do to yours. I have all the stock parts, and the pickup rings are attached with double sided tape, so no holes have been drilled. If I was worried about resale, I could put all the stock parts back in and list it as original.

This is a 1997 Gibson Thunderbird. The tuners have been upgraded to HipShot USA ultra-lites. The bridge has been upgraded to a Chrome Babicz, and the pick ups are genuine Gibson vintage reissues....sfbay.craigslist.org
… the only exception here is I never had the stock pickups for this and the pickup trim rings are actually screwed in. It’s a great bass, but I currently have two ebony/black ones. Also, the ‘97 has an ebony fretboard where the anniversary ones have rosewood.
That’s a brilliant idea!, but I have one question: If you used double sided tape to avoid drilling, how did you manage the screws? Are they just the screw heads glued into the holes, or did you use shortened screws that don't actually reach the wood?
