Sometimes when I have insomnia in the wee hours of the morning I contemplate deeper things-

My latest was contemplating an interesting correlation between two notable things that were conceived in the year 1983-

One by Ridley Scott and Apple Computers - Note the wardrobe of the young lady with the sledgehammer - actress and discus thrower Anya Major-




And another associated with a group of businessmen from Clearwater Florida- very interesting ...

The first chords of MRS SIPPI MIX 5 01 made me think of Link Wray (Rumble)! Really nice recording - really distinct and articulate expression of each instrument & vocalist. Compliment your engineer! I could hear the doubling with your Firebird - very cool/effective. For me recording is mandatory. Live is fun and heady, but recording is a document of what a (short-lived in this case) band achieved collectively.

I usually don't play this style of rock, but I fully appreciate any flavor delivered so dynamically!

Wow - looks like a one-piece slab of mahogany... score! I find those Gibson molded brass cavity trays interesting. None of my '60s Gibson basses had them, but they were installed in many of their guitars & basses in the '60s and possibly beyond.

And seem to have holes pre drilled for various instruments. I thought mine was odd because of the mods over the years, but I have also seen others with more holes than necessary.

I hear you about the bass being a bit loud, but... in my experience recording I always have to advocate for "more bass". (Jerry Wexler's famous quote) Most engineers consider bass placed 'in the background'... I started playing bass when Entwistle, Bruce, Bogert and JPJ were 1st and foremost NOT in the background so when we record - the bass needs a more prominent 'position' in the mix. Jerry Wexler knew it and that's good enough for me.

Most all Motown/Stax recordings you can easily hear the bass.

Many said that spontaneous generation was the ticket- Aristotle's theory was held to be scientific fact for nearly 2000 years until 1861 when Louis Pasteur proved them wrong. Mind you there were a couple of dissenters along the way- both Italians - physician Franciso Redi in the mid 17th century, and Lazaro Spallazini, an Italian Catholic priest who also happened to be a biologist and physiologist, challenged it in the mid-1700's. But as we all know, the "scientific concensus" is always right- not the actual facts.

The list of things once thought right/true is indeed long and continues to get longer by the day. Which should give us humans some pause and a touch of humility in making sweeping, dogmatic, and eternally binding pronouncements. Just read some academic journal articles and it's clear we often don't know what we're talking about--but still are not lacking in confidence in talking about it. But I'm a natural skeptic and question most everything. Thunderbird's excepted.

What is your preferred filler. On my boat, when I was doing fiberglass and some wood repairs I used West System Epoxy with one of their four grades of powder fillers, occasionally with wood plugs, depending on how structural the repair was. Of course there were times when I used cloth or mat with polyester resin.

Some wood and some epoxy based. I don't recall. Used several things for different needs. I'll try to remember to look when out in the garage.

Thank you Sir. It had been decades since I refined a bass. I asked Irv questions and kind of re-schooled myself not having fooled with wood working in years. I learned things as I was going, was reminded of some things--and hope to do a less involved project again. Maybe this Summer. Unlikely, but maybe. Some dude keeps posting/flaunting a killer Ivory NR II and I may have to do one at some point.

Here is a link to a track I recorded with my old '14 Tbird whcih had thunderbuckers at the time. This was fed into a GK2001rb and a NV610 with some sidechain grit added (I think with a Darkglass B7K) and daddario XL's. Funnily enough I overdubbed my own bass parts with a gibson firebird guitar.

Sadly that band fell apart in spectacular rock n roll fashion with exceptional ego, drug abuse and the producer who kept us going sadly took his own life. But I am glad we got to record this track. Particularly proud of the ending...all down strokes baby.

Thank you! I think I mentioned this before but I moved back to the state in 2023 to work and get caught up on the bills so don't spend a lot of time here. I do check in once in a while though, thanks, I was able to answer your post for some reason, been having trouble.

It was a cool experience, I don't touch the 6 string much, if ever. The producer saw me with the Tbird, then in post production said "can you replay the entire song, matching your swing and groove from start to finish?" I confusingly said yes. Then he handed me my guitarists firebird and said "do it".

Guitarist was not stoked that there was going to be guitar on the track that wasnt him. THE HORROR. But after it was done and mixed it really sounded wicked.

I kid about the truck and call it my twin turbo 4 Wheel drive Mustang with 4 doors and huge trunk.

Our Expedition Platinum is tuned to 400 HP (3.5 twin turbo as well). Just a little higher than the truck. But weighs what two Mustangs run! It and the truck are shockingly quick. Handling.... well......It rides great and will massage your back and butt, is also 4WD so it's a trade off I reckon!
