Oh wow what a stunning looking bass. With my upcoming trip and looking at the basses I might be able to get my hands on I was thinking last night I would just find the tbird that feels the best then change pickups or whatever depending on what I want (more so if it was a post 88 gibson) and came across these pickups. My mind started dreaming of early 2000's sunburst Tbird with all gold hardware....gold pickups and pickup surrounds. Don't know if I have ever seen that.

Anyway it being brighter isn't too much of an issue for me. I did hear someone else's review where they compared the pickup directly to the epiphone 760's and I thought the 760 sounded a little more old school tbird but the 916 had a wonderful musical depth to them.

Do you happen to have any recordings of that red beauty?

Thank you. It was something else when I got it. I knew it when I got it. The guy I got it from (Chris Stapelton's friend and bass player) was going to restore it, but it was going to be more involved than the seller he got it from indicated, so he was just sitting on it. I was talking to him about always wanting a NR and mentioned if he ever had anything "cheap" and not a collector I might be interested. He had been planning to restore it and had many of the parts but offered it to me if I wanted it. If not he would get around to it one day. The rest is history. It's fantastic. I love playing it and miss when I don't use it.

Given your Ford, you will appreciate the color if Ford Ruby Red Metallic. Same as my truck.

Someone "refinished" it at some point. Sanded with a floor sander while drunk and applied some poly--too much in some places.
It had Jazz pups in it at some point, and extra holes for controls.
Had 8 different bridges on it (slight exaggeration), more holes than Bonnie and Clyde's car.
Had a decent neck/headstock repair, but was left unfinished and rough.

The comps to the 760s may have been me as well. Those do sound more "rough around the edges" and vintage you might say. Also seem to have more lows and and have more output.

I personally think gold hardware looks smashing on a Thunderbird! Tobacco Burst, White, Red, Black - all look great decked out in gold.

Backing track from phone via Bluetooth to amp, mixed with live play out the USB port to a very old copy of Audacity.

The bass is way too loud in the mix because I was trying to check my dynamics and sustain.

Fingers crossed this works...

Currently 93 in Bako. It’s only March!

I did a bike ride (Pacifica to the GGBridge & back) in upper 80's temps today. As it isn't 'normal' in the Bay Area it was ok/enjoyable. Especially as I rode north along the Great Highway (parellel to the ocean) where it felt like an air-conditioner on full blast! (quite a contrast!)
Years ago I did a very hot bike (amateur Nationals) road-race near Bako and it was not fun. Also did a two day track weekend at Buttonwillow (near Bako) in that heat - tyres gripped nicely... at the end of each run we'd pour iced-water into our leathers.

I hear you about the bass being a bit loud, but... in my experience recording I always have to advocate for "more bass". (Jerry Wexler's famous quote) Most engineers consider bass placed 'in the background'... I started playing bass when Entwistle, Bruce, Bogert and JPJ were 1st and foremost NOT in the background so when we record - the bass needs a more prominent 'position' in the mix. Jerry Wexler knew it and that's good enough for me.

Thanks. It was a fair amount of work and was running out of time to spray the clear, and in windy conditions, but I love it. Plays great, is super light and I'm very happy with how it sounds. It's far from original, but I have a fraction of an original with a neck repair in it. It's a head turner when I use it. The complements are nice after all the work I put in it. Has a parchment pick guard J.T. gave me and the subtle color (which doesn't show in pics) really looks great. I intend on getting a tug bar per original and proper knobs.

Floor Edger even. Had they used the floor belt sander it would have at least been even and no goofy sanding marks. You should have seen it. I spent more time correcting the body that I ever imagined. I wouldn't even know how to do what they did. Some people shouldn't be let out of their cage.

You can see some of the odd sanding scratches here. If you were going to stain and clear coat it why would you not.... Well you know.

Beautiful. If I could get into a 60's bird I would, goodness me are they spenny!

She is just under 500hp as it sits! I have considered boosting it (easy 800) however I prefer "drivers" cars that are good for twistie roads so it is a handling beast. I run a parts distribution company and we are developing our own 8-1 header system so this thing will literally howl like 90's F1 cars....

With that and changing the rear gears to 4.56 it should be right on 500 with similar torque. That and semi slicks will be wicked.

I know you didn't mean to type that and your fingers rebelled and went off script.

On my Macbook Pro it sounded just fine. Like the bass on old Staple Singers recordings. No way to no hear David hood and others who played on their recordings.

Wow - looks like a one-piece slab of mahogany... score! I find those Gibson molded brass cavity trays interesting. None of my '60s Gibson basses had them, but they were installed in many of their guitars & basses in the '60s and possibly beyond.

Sounds like a rocket on a cracker!

I kid about the truck and call it my twin turbo 4 Wheel drive Mustang with 4 doors and huge trunk.

Our Expedition Platinum is tuned to 400 HP (3.5 twin turbo as well). Just a little higher than the truck. But weighs what two Mustangs run! It and the truck are shockingly quick. Handling.... well......It rides great and will massage your back and butt, is also 4WD so it's a trade off I reckon!
