Thunderbird Club

So I just looked. They’re playing the Palladium in September. I need to go.
Opened for Husker Du a couple of times, saw them in a friends basement in and have seen Bob Mould solo a few times. Always a great show! Sugar look to be in Philly in October....

Unrelated side note, going to see the Messthetics tomorrow night. I need to retire so I can get to more shows!

I caught two of the three shows Sugar played last weekend in NYC. First shows they've played in 31 years, and the first I've seen since 1994. No one expected them to ever play again, so it was nothing short of incredible. Sugar has had a huge impact on my life. They've been in frequent rotation since.

One of my favorites. That music resonates with me.

What do I need to do to be named in your will to get that? I’ll even have oysters with you. Oh wait. We’re the same age. But you look younger. So that may not be the best idea. I love that Thunderbird.
That Lull? You will have to wrassle with me over it. I am in complete lust with that orange beast. It is magical.

Awesome, dude!

Youse guys and your flats. Just not my thing. But if it makes you happy, it’s all good
I'll be playing this hollow-body bass, with La Bella flats on Saturday night at The Rite Spot. Playing it makes me happy! :)

Agreed. I did about 20 hours with the EBCF on my P-bass with the Thunderbird pickup and tried recording some tunes with them. Not my thing.
It's definitely a personal preference. Keep in mind that EBCFs are atypical in the flat world and may be the most modern sounding flat offered. More of a roundish sound for people who may want a flat feel as much as anything. That said, may mean more traditional sounding flats would even be less your thing. Which is all good. I like both, though most basses have flats.

What happened?
Don't really know. This guy buys engines and takes them completely apart and films the process and discusses what he finds and likely went on. (Has a salvage business.) This was a 2018 and I don't recall he had a def conclusion. Some kind of part failure and not a low or no oil issue. There were several issues but the worst is below. This video was longer than normal.

Head Piston. What's left of it.

Valve stem failure. Sheared off valve heads peening around in the cylinder at 7k strokes a minute.

Nice bass! The tilt orientation of the neck pickup caught me a bit off guard. Typically you drop the bass side of the tilted pickup towards the bridge to balance the tone out with the treb side which is closer to the neck. Very interesting. So I assume you get some very creamy deep lows on that neck pickup with the E and A strings.

So, likely the last time I’ll be on the stage of the iconic SF venue, Bottom of the Hill. I certainly wish I had the opportunity to have been on that stage many more times over the years. I can say that I was fortunate to play there somewhat often in the 90’s, and even as far back as when the stage was smaller, and the bathroom hallway was behind the stage.

I’m really hoping somehow my other band can get in there before they shut down, but it’s a longshot…

DTB sound better than RS66 on this..... not happy about that but....

That’s just over 116 strokes in a second.
And 7k RPM isn’t even nearly as high as some motors do.
As a longtime Wankler, I approve this msg.
😝

7k is barely pushing for some engines, not even peak power for others, and mad insanity for still others.
7k is what the video label said it failed at.

With broke-off pieces flying around, it's usually adequate. ;)
