Thunderbird Club

I’m sorta there. Not really planning anything, although still have a couple wants. But nothing I can’t live without. For me it’s kind of a peaceful feeling.

I'm getting resigned to it, looking forward to being at peace with it. I can say I have no wants. I have sold 7 basses in the last year, and really only miss the White VP, but since I still have the black VP, I'll get over it. My only regret was never buying a Greco Thunderbird, but not enough to get one, even though I am still going to sell 2 more basses which would more than cover a Greco. So I guess my GAS is truly over (I know, famous last words).

I like when that happened on the Simpsons.

Chief Wiggum sees all the stoners enjoying and exclaims, "Throw on that sack of old barber hair!"
My high school days definitely pre-dated the Simpsons! But I can see the 1972-73 Richmond County Sheriff's office doing something like that. Hollering through a megaphone, "Here ya go, ya freaks, the good stuff!"

We stumbled on a small grow while backpacking about ten years ago. We were off the main trail taking a shortcut to a creek in Sequoia Nat’l Forest. We did not go back that way. We did catch us a couple goldens.
When we lived in the boonies, our kids (11 and 9, maybe?) found a pot plant growing in a flower pot, hanging from a tree in the woods behind the house. We called it in just to make sure we didn't get busted if someone else found it. A deputy came out, took their statements, and hauled it off. That was the end of it. No idea who was growing it, but we were surprised because everyone (and I mean everyone) in that valley owned guns and practiced with them on weekends. Someone must have been confused about where they were when they hung the plant there. Probably stoned.

Yeah, something might call to me, but I'm not looking for anything other than a rich uncle to buy me Leon's blueburst bird and Phil's original Alembic with the Mission Control setup.

EDIT: I was thinking basses. I still have GAS fro a couple of amps.

After more searching an looking at ebay, looks like one of these. If it sounds anything close to marginally good, I'll faint! Good vintage replacement. :roflmao: Didn't know you could get any pup for the price of an Arby's.

You won't know until you play through it - it could rock. I just know Bill Lawrence did bar magnet pu's early on.

One of my best friends in college was the son of a Japanese gardener. His dad stored hundreds of landscaping plants in their back yard. My buddy was responsible for caring for them. He always managed to hide a few plants among the maples. Until he let one get too big and his Dad figured out what he was doing. It was pretty funny when his Dad busted him. Fortunately, his Mom never found out. She would have killed him.

You see those pickups in a lot of Strats, but not sure I've seen one in a bass before. Hopefully it sounds good!
It will go in the trash. I was hoping it was worth selling, but it's only worth the postage! I have two 90s(?) Koreabuckers that were in the '66 NR when I got it. From what I recall they sounded pretty decent, so those will go in. If the bass shows great potential I may put some nicer pups in at some point, but unlikely unless the Koreabuckers suck in it.

My GAS for basses and amps has definitely backed down over the last 6 months. I have about every variant of bird I’d want and same with amps. However, my car GAS is starting to percolate. Over the last month I sold two of my three Porsches…

As nice as my Cayenne is, I can’t seem to come to grips with only having one car, so I’ll be adding something back to the stable. No idea what just yet but it’s gotta be a used fun daily driver, maybe pre 1976 to avoid CA smog issues. Taking all suggestions (Sorry Donnie, it won’t be a Cordoba). Right now looking at everything from Jeeps and Trucks to Corvettes and Porsches and even eying this little gem in honor of Chucky…

Of course, if a really tempting extra special Thunderbird bass should pop up I’d probably take a swing at it (guess I’m not fully cured yet).

Lovin that color on the AMX. The new vettes are sharp looking and excellent handling. I haven’t quite gotten used to a Ferrari sound coming from a Corvette yet, but it’s sure a nice ride, plus they come in every color imaginable.

there are so many flavors to the C8, the 6.2 is under consideration too since you mention sound....if you were referring to the green, absolutely.....if the orange, it's not even a 1968 color but it works....

Is anyone else done with GAS? It only took me 28 years. It's kind of a melancholic feeling, don't look at the classifieds, no anticipation of a new purchase. It's a little bit like something is missing.

But with 2 Gibsons at home (1997 Thunderbird, 1969 EB3) 2 at practice (2014 Thunderbird and SG), 2 Dingwalls, a Roscoe, VP, ThunderJ, ThunderP, and a few others I've had put together, it's an embarrassment of riches, and really there's nothing more I could ask for, and no needs unmet. I do feel lucky.
I find myself looking at mic preamps and mics lately.

"Italians Do it Better"
talk about pride huh? geez...
The MB performed flawlessly into the 2x12 MB box last night.....turns out there was nothing wrong with the enclosure (had been making strange sounds) but points at the Little Markbass 800 that I used for years that was actually the (now gone) Gilroy GC's showroom model.....will never make that mistake again no matter how bad I need an amp....on the Vintage 1000, LOADS of headroom, literally pulled it out of the box and gigged it, still need to play around with it in the garage a little bit to familiarize....dig how they moved away from that strange little mini preamp tube opting for the more common 12A (JJ looks like) type format nicely (cool marketing) showcased in the front panel....bunch of new settings to play with but that said, the customer experience was awesome as is sounded stellar out of the box without any major tweaks (due to probably intentional factory settings) or input....only caveat is unlike the Little Markbass 800 that used a "pull" setting on the volume pot to mute, this amp (unless I missed something, haven't read the manual) calls for a footswitch.....all in all, stoked with the purchase, round two on Sun......

What? No Cordoba? From a man of your intelligence and class, I'm shocked. Concerned even. Something is not right. Maybe you need to talk to Dave's daughter.

Seriously, I do get it. They are not for everyone. The desire for an AMX certainly is a good contender.

I suppose you have ruled out a Pelham Blue Chrysler as well.
